Winton Fun Day - Next One: January 2013 (Date TBA)!

Post by jimmymeik89 »

Hey Guys/Girls,

EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!

The next Winton Fun Day is on [size=18 January 2013 (Date TBA) [/size] for cruising around the track.

your car will need to pass scrutineering (good brakes, good tyres, no leaks) and not be louder than 95db(pretty much an effective muffler is all you need, full system is ideal..they're not too harsh on the sound issue)

OPEN TO ALL MAKES AND MODELS OF CARS

this is the link:
http://www.wintonraceway.com.au/drive/fun-days

Its dirt cheap at $35pp for the whole day and $35pp for each passenger that goes on the track. in 25 minute sessions. 25 minutes alone session then 25 mins with passenger and so on.

helmets and fireproof clothing must be worn (ie: long sleeve flanny and jeans with boots)

you also need a Helmet with the current Australian standard sticker on it.

Heres the link for FAQS:

http://www.wintonraceway.com.au/wp-cont ... stions.pdf

Was so much fun!

Who has done this before??

Cheers
James

Not sure if I'll be in for this one, but, we've done heaps of Winton fun days over the years.
Make sure your lid is in date, and take EVERYTHING out of your car. Make sure your tyres are not too worn, (they will be stuffed at the end of the day), or even better, get a secondhand set of semicomps or track rubber on another set of rims.
Don't stress too much about exhaust noise, so long as you actually have a pipe on you should be ok. We usually just run a straight side pipe!
I cant recommend doing this enough! It is insane fun in a modest car, because you can go at it full tilt as long as you don't get too silly, and avoid getting flagged. When you have full race prepped cars sharing the track, you can get into it 110% and still look soooo slow.
Tip, save your car and yourself for the afternoon sessions. Alot of people drop out during the day with car woes and exhaustion, and you get more space to play.
Here's a session from a few years ago..

If you are really worried, take some steel wool. Stick it down the end of your exhaust, fold a bit of fine-meshed fencing wire over the end to stop the wool blowing out and secure it with a hose clamp. Bit agricultural, but itd get you out of trouble

Yeah man, they usually run the long track.

The idea is it's a fun / test n tune day.
You are supposed to only go at 80%, so any loss of traction will get you a flag out of the session, and if you really piss them off you are out for the day.
Having said that, when you have an M3 and a GTR taking you on either side at twice your speed doing their 80%, any realistic car is gonna look slow. So most people are at 110%

If your exhaust mods look like they may be spread over the track, they wont get through scrutineering

If you can get your hands on semi comps and a set of hardcore brake pads, do a few sessions with your road stuff on, then swap them out at lunch. It is a serious eye opener!

Also, you can pre hire shed spaces, well worth it. Otherwise be at the gate an hour or two before open and you can rush up near the track entry and get a shelter. Beats trying to do running repairs on your car in the paddock.

Might come up for a watch...

I doubt I'll be going out on the track, but starting to sound like a good social day! :D
Might be a few heads there I need to smack, but I'll be good.
Not much chance of Roddy's coupe being done, but these fun days tend to inspire frantic car building progress. Haha.
