Pre adr TX coupe 4ze1 turbo build (was project TC coupe)
Re: Pre adr TX coupe 4ze1 turbo build (was project TC coupe)
Yep indeed
Does solve a couple of other problems for me too though :
1. Ability to mount stock heater system
2. Allows me to run a speedo cable if need be
Hopefully it will deliver to what I expect

I'm getting there with the tunnel. Did some more work on it yesterday
Now need to finish passenger side and the rear of the tunnel and she'll be done.

Yeah now you know why I was hesitant to commence it!
All is tracking well though I believe it will be ok. Welded inside and out along all seams so will be very solid at least.
Passenger side needs some more cutting of original floor to meet the higher late model tunnel as seamlessly as possible.
Once this is done, I can move onto the paint work and then assembly

The floor matching is why i chose to replace the whole front floor pan. Everything matched at the door sills, seam joining the front and rear floor panels and firewall but in between the floor pans are way different.
Re: Pre adr TX coupe 4ze1 turbo build (was project TC coupe)
Yeah I appreciate that Toby however I didn't really have a complete coupe floor to weld in and walking around trying to find a donor one, then cutting it out neatly was going to be a mission.
I think this is still an acceptable option for me and will be plenty solid whilst retaining as much of the original car as possible.

This car is going to be the death of me.
Trans tunnel welded in, welds ground, all rust work now complete.
Coating it all with kbs tomorrow then use some body filler to blend it all.
All in all I'm very happy with the job although it took a fuckload of time - I mean a fuckload.
The trans tunnel and associated work took me about 80 hours and that's no bulls*#t. Granted someone more skilled could've done it in 10 hours but I wanted it done right and that I did.
Hardest part was shaping the old floor to suit the later model tunnel and then grinding all the welds.
I ended up cutting out two pieces of the driver's side floorpan that had Swiss cheese and welding in two new pieces.
Also ground back (most of) remainder of the welding I had previously done on various sections so now all smooth. Only sections to go are fuel filler hump and front cowl area.
Left to do:
1. Kbs seal all areas that I've welded / fixed rust.
2. Body fill various areas to smoothen out
3. Kbs seal remainder of floor pan and tran tunnel
4. Grind welds on front cowl and fuel filller hump
5. Seal parcel tray with kbs
6. Rub back and high fill doors
7. High fill areas that have been repaired
8. High fill and Paint various areas of engine bay that have been repaired
9. Drop front suspension frame back in
10. Block entire car in prep for paint
All the above needs to be done by 3rd December as my garage is being demolished on 4th December. I've got time off work until then so going to be working 11-12 hours a day to get it all done in the next two weeks
Then it goes to paint and I can start assembling in the new house once it comes back.
Wish me luck
Mick

Almost all bodywork done and car is now in high fill. Only some minor bog work to be done in engine bay where I made some repairs, which then need to be primered, then it will sit in high fill over xmas. We will block it the second week of January then it will go to the booth to be painted.

Re: Pre adr TX coupe 4ze1 turbo build (was project TC coupe)
So - an update. For those that haven’t been following on Facebook, this ended up being parked for the last 3.5 years as life continued to get in the way
Best thing I did was give the car over to Matt Jones from Macarthur autobody.
Here it has gone back to bare metal and started fresh. And the pics will tell that story better.
I’m hopeful of getting it back all painted and assembled in the next 3-4 weeks.
Ended up going back to the tx front end - big job to do this but I think it’s well worth it
Then it will have the engine and box dropped in, wiring redone, interior and final fit off and tune. I’m hopeful this will be finished over Xmas / New Year holiday.
This is now the final combination for the car which has changed a fair bit but I’m happy with where we are going:
4zd1 custom everything - stroked to 2.4L
BW s257sxe turbo initially (have a s364 for more power)
Plazmaman inlet manifold and tb
MUA box initially (and trimatic going in once niggles are sorted)
Haltech elite 2500 with wb
Haltech ic7 dash
Egt thermocouple setup
Also looking to upgrade brakes to the wilwood setup
Front mount setup needs to be rethought as I don’t want to cut anything out of the stock front end.
Will update this page as I get closer.
