Just for the fun of it!! TD Van rebuild

Post by tkmblue »

I've been trying to get this thread up for ages to show you guys something different. I am rebuilding a TD van to reminisce my youth. My first car was a TD van. I am now 40yo and wanting something to do. So here is what I got to start with to where I'm at now. It cost me $200 by the way.

Please feel free to add comments and suggestions as to what I should be doing.

Enjoy!

Not much panel damage!

Welded in a new insert in the back. These are the mags I'm going with.

Refabricating the beaver tail

New floor pans in

Stared work on the under side then. Now to try and get this thing half straight..
Image
Even got a hold of a fuel cap. Made the hinges from the tutorial on here.
Image
Starting to get there. Especially from what I started with. Forgot to tell you guys that I'm no panel beater either. First timer. You probably can already tell!!
Now to get the engine bay out of the way(Hopefully)

And that is where I'm up to. Motor is being built by a friend of mine. Hopefully be in by xmas. Should have all the paint done by then. Then to start on the interior. I will keep pics posted as I go along.
Well got some colour on this the other day, (running a tad late). This is how it turned out. I'm really happy with it. Exactly what I was after. It's really dark out of the light being a pearl mixture. Now to start on the interior. Going to do be doing this myself as well. So if any of you guys have got any tips on trimming the rear of the van then I'm all ears.

Here are some recent pics of the build. Nearly done!! Only a bit of trim to finish up, get the doggies working and jam a beat box in with some speakers!

It needs a clean up as you can see. Hoping to have this on the road within a month or two! Been a long journey but that what it's all about!
Here's the final pics of the gem. Enjoy

Booked in for a roadworthy next week. Will put it on club rego as it won't be used much. Thanks to everyone who has helped me throughout this build, it's been much appreciated. I hope to be able to catch up with some of you in person at some stage at some get together. Cheers!!

I'm struggling to get them to load. Keeps coming up with attachment to large but they are only 1MB? Not sure what is going on. Will keep trying.

Cheers, thanks guys. Hopefully, (well it will be), painted by the end of January. Then it's time to get stuck into the interior.

Nice! You on the east coast? Should get it ready and bring it to the nationals!
