Father and son tx coupe backyard resto

Post by armed »

This is my 14 year old son Chris first car that we have been restoring. This is a full backyard build that is getting built to his taste (blue is not my choice). I am sure not all will agree we are going the right way about it. This coupe has been mini tubbed, it getting front and rear commodore stud pattern and brake conversion, it will roll on convos rear diff still to be shortened, front guard lips have been cut and shut to fit wheels, all rust has been replaced with metal and welded. Interior is 95% finished, we have purchaced the full rare spares rubber kit, new (blue) super pro bush kit has been fitted to the powder coated front end, rear still needs to be done, still plenty to do but should be a neat 1st car.

We stripped the dash back out the engine was removed and all the front end as it was time to do the engine bay. Talk about doing it the hard way but that's what happens when you have to move house in the middle of restoring a car. We primed, masked up and prepsoled the gemini ready for the top coat then it was time to call the professional painter to apply the top coat (Thanks Rowan). The front end is back in and the wiring loom is cleaned, re tapped and laying back in the bay still got to clean paint re seal heater box, wiper motor etc which will take a few weeks after that we will have a go at re building the engine. Will add more photos as we get to it.

Good work, good to see the attention to detail, are you doing all the panel work yourself?

Body work is done by us we get it to the stage where the painter (Rowan) only applies the top coat (Blue and clear), all the tubs, front guard cut and shut, boot floor replacement, welding, repairs, sanding, priming and masking up is done by use. We moulded the bottom section of the bonnet scoop to the bonnet it is not bolted (Chris wanted the scoop. I'm looking for a spare bonnet). All rust has been cut out and replaced with metal. Front end was powder coated by a mate. I pressed all bushes in at work and we assembled the front end at home. The trim was done by a group of work mates it cost me a few fabrication favours. The engine re build is another job we will take on at home just need to finish the engine bay first (wiper motor, heater box etc). For those interested we will post photos as we progress.
