Any Concreters here ??
Any Concreters here ??
Im looking to get a concrete slab laid to sit my trailer on.
Ive had a couple of quotes and frankly its disgusting what some guys think their time is worth.
I can chuck some coin at the right person (somebody that knows what they are doing) and all the booze you can drink.

that a big trailer pad
if you can back a concrete truck right up to it, id expect to get it done for $3000(formed, supply and lay, everything) + site prep (level out the area, remove vegetation etc..)
thats plain grey broom finished.
Extra for a pump if you cant get the truck right up to it.
its quite a large area for a 100mm thick non structural slab though. they might be quoting to put thickening beams through it to stop it shifting and cracking
what prices have you been quoted?

I hate concreting.
What sorta prices are you getting back?
I know it cost the old man a few dollars for the workshops slab.
It's about 350mm thick though.

ha ha so what new? We've seen similar bullsh1t here recently about so called "budget " quotes being offered. Thats Australian tradies for you, its a couple od days work so they want $1000 a day. So 3K sounds about right.Andrew64 wrote: Ive had a couple of quotes and frankly its disgusting what some guys think their time is worth.
.
Ive done a 30m2 parking pad and costs were as follows
Builder plastic $75.95
2 x RF62 mesh (2400x6000) $115.00
bar chairs $ 20.00
3.6 m3 concrete MPA25 +waiting time 45 min $722.50
hire of concreting trowels $43.20
The bulders plastic was a full roll, most of which was left over. I did all the boxing myself from crap wood I had lying around (VJs actually). I paid the truck $50 waiting time for him take longer to pour slowly as it was summer and only me, but you can avoid this by having one mate do the screed with you and Pouring in cooler months so the cement cures more slowly, giving you time to work it.
IF you are on reactive soil, spend $50 on a trailer load of bedding sand to put under the slab
IF your ground is not level, you'll have to pay a Bobcat $100 to level one it out for you if you dont want to do it by hand.
I am not a concretor. DIY is great. My pad works great too
Sent me an unsolicited PM? Look at your fkg Outbox. Wakey wakey
yea i have done pretty much all mine (apart from the shed), i love concreting (infact i have just been doing some steps) i am lucky we are on sandstone so in the light traffic smaller areas i dont use reo, but in your case you will need to
i was thinking of joining a conreting gang to learn more, must be the wog in me eh?
and i know your gonna hit me up....too busy being a tradie charging an arm and a leg

And yes Gene its a big trailer
A lot of the time we housing tradesmans etc quote by how busy we are ,, the guy you called might be flat out so the only reason he will fit you in is its worth it ,, every tradesman has builders he has to keep happy , you have to find a small independent contractor who specialises in smaller jobs ,, my advise would be just keep shopping around for more quotes ,, and definitely don't take the cheapest quote you can get either because you will get what you pay for
I didnt actually ring anybody, I found a site that tradies look at for jobs.Anthony_Gemini wrote: you have to find a small independent contractor who specialises in smaller jobs ,, my advise would be just keep shopping around for more quotes

I figured if they were actively looking for work they would be priced fairly.
I got 2 quotes yesterday (off that site) both were in the 2300 range
