I didnt actually ring anybody, I found a site that tradies look at for jobs. http://www.homeimprovementpages.com.au/home/index1
I figured if they were actively looking for work they would be priced fairly. I got 2 quotes yesterday (off that site) bot were in the 2300 range

Sounds a lot more reasonable . They have probably included some bobcat work for levellingout, so if it is level, ask if they will reduce. Concretors get cement for ~$140 per cubic metre, as opposed to $182 for Joe Citizen.
Sent me an unsolicited PM? Look at your fkg Outbox. Wakey wakey
You get what you pay for generally with anything the cheapest quote isn't always the best quote make sure you know what your getting some blokes don't even put steel in it of they can get away with it. I can under stand people putting a bit on it because at the end of the day you don't know how long something is going to take you your only guessing really but there is a ballpark and some people are in the car park. I did a job today that someone quoted 3 days labour to do, in 4 hours. I allowed 8hrs on mine and a bit of gear. I did more than his quote for a third of the price work that one out?

I will keep a little soil to fill some holes but thats about it.
Had another guy call in at 7am this morning.
I dont understand where he's coming from bu he quoted $1500, dig remove box and lay.
Think I'll steer clear of this guy.

The cement will come from a truck, those mixes are always good. All you have to do is make sure he puts down plastic, first Then mesh. IF he wants to do it for $1500 with a truck mix, why not? Your crazy if u pass it up. He probably knows someone with bobcat who will pass by and level out your site in 30 mins.
ITs about 12 hours work, and the guy might be desperate for work. The buildign downturn has made 'em hungrier for jobs. Offer cash for a discount.

Get the bloke to come have a look at the job first. This will give you an opportunity to suss him out first and make sure he's gonna do it properly and will give him a better idea of what's needed, before committing to the job.
The bloke i work for regularly does quotes that come in at 2/3 of the price of other tradies quotes. He makes sure he's getting the right money and that the customer is getting the right price.
But when we are snowed under with work, the price goes ^^^
