searching for a us gem
well guys after pulling the g180 out of my luv and dropping in a chevy 4.3 v6 and regretting it a bit.. I'm searching for the us version of a gem sold here as the buick opel and I believe as the isuzu imark. I prevIously had the turbo manifolds and turbo from a piazza along with some dsm injectors but sold all that.
hoping to find one, convert to the holden badging and pull the g161 for a g180 with 4z intake and a custom turbo manifold with a t25 or t28 variant and 5 speed. would be a ton of fun as a drift and cruise car.
going to be really hard to find one as they are incredibly rare here. hopefully I can find one with a bad engine for a good price
just logged in to let you guys know I haven't given up the quest for a boosted g series

nothing nearby I have found yet. found one on ebay in rough shape but not anywhere nearby
isuzus from that year range aren't common or popular around here. isuzu In general is not a very big brand in the states.
will be a slow process even when I do find one I have a baby comin so funds are tight

Re: searching for a us gem
planning a slow build on a car I can't find lol
eventually I will find one when I have some money in my pocket probably gonna be a year or more before everything lines up.
may pick up a g180 from a salvage yard and slowly tinker with it, I have a pretty nice little welder to start working on a manifold when I get some steam pIpe, port the head a bit and the misc free to me modifications I can do.
thinking g180, mildly ported head, g200 valves
4ze1 intake mani
dsm or rx7 injectors
walbro 190lph
megasquirt 2 ems with edis ignition
most likely the turbo from a nissan or subaru. the subaru units are pretty common in yards for $75us probably just going to start at 7psi with a front mount to keep the pistons safe. eventually go to 12-14 with water injection
5 speed from a isuzu pickup
will get as much of it as I can from salvage yards to keep to my non existant budget

Re: searching for a us gem
this is our version of the gem
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/4502306845.html
this one has a lot of rust and the seller isn't wanting to come down on the price, still looking but beyond the rust it doesn't look bad
just need to find one cheap enough and rust free to be worth the investment as im basically just buying it for the rolling shell

Re: searching for a us gem
Victoria, BC here. I was looking around for one a few months ago, found a couple of Impulse RSs east (waaaaaaay east) but couldn't find any earlier stuff. Good luck mate, hope a decent one pops up.
