Post by Jonno »

Can everyone who took pics please PM me.

I'll get you to either email me the pics or as Justin (gemsince88) is doing burn to cd/dvd and mail them to me.

Trying to put something together to distribute etc.

Need them at full resolution to not scaled down, imageshack/photobucket loaded etc.

Many thanks

Jonno

If the number next year doubles, it would be good to set aside at least half of that whole side where we were camped... all we had this time plus a few more sites down toward that exit gate we all used to drive in and out.

You can be chase/recovery car again!!

My thoughts...

Might be a good idea to work a slightly different system next time on cruises. Like Jonno suggested when we talked about it at the time, keep visual contact with car in front and behind and if a turn happens and you can't see the car following you, wait till it gets there as a corner guide. As we found, driving through roundabout infested towns is a sure way to get the group split up as other cars have right of way at roundabouts and slip into the run then dawdle along and hold you up. Lead cars stopping after passing through towns to let the stragglers catch up and regrouping is also probably a good idea.

ok , so here is my numbers...

I towed , so fuel, consumption was extremely high.

Total was $880.18. This was for all food, fuel and accommodation, and a fuel pump!!!

It was well worth it.

I had 2k set aside for it ( really didnt need that much , but you never know what gems may pop up for sale on the way home ;)

I know that if i drove the gem there , i could pretty much cut that figure almost in half.

And as far as reliability goes , if you have been driving your gem around for 12 months without blowing the motor up , it WILL make a long drive!

I just tallied up the fuel costs, that was $409 return and I still have 3/4 of a tank.
Accommodation was $150 for the 3 nights for 2 people.
Food is the big variable as we ate at every stop along the way.
So, it could be done cheaper by eating less or taking food from home and cooking at the park, we will do this next year.
Simple things like coffee, we bought @ $5 per cup instead of making for $0.20 if you get my drift.
