Sorry I haven't replied to the thread guys I've been bulls*#t busy with goings on at home, fires and other work related must do's...

Have spoken to the club VP who is going to hopefully get back to me this Wednesday re the availability of the track. The club has a DA going through at the moment for an extension to the current track layout. While it's unlikely that there will be any work going on over the Easter long weekend, there is a chance that it maybe at a stage where the track is unusable. The club wants the track to be available during the works but at some point the new and old surfaces must meet. He will let me know definitely where it is all up to before we secure the track.

Also, insurance during the proposed meet needs to be addressed. The club can't let you run on the basis that "I wont sue you if I'm injured". So it has to be a CAMS affiliated event. Now without scaring everybody off this just means we follow CAMS rules to run. Scrutineers will check over every car before running. Road registered cars if in roadworthy condition should go through no dramas. People floating their car to avoid possible defects should read through the CAMS regulations and may have to tidy up a few areas before running. Nothing was mentioned about CAMS licenses, but I will confirm when I speek to him again. But from what some people in the know have told me, you will only need a CAMS license if it is a timed event. However we are permitted to use our own timing gear such as a stopwatch and log times for our own reference. I have someone lined up to do this job if this forum agrees and should the event go ahead...

That said, The private track hire for the day and insurance is in the vicinity of $1100 - $1200. That sounds like a lot but if we get more people interested, say 20 cars, the cost could be as little as $55/car.

Understandably, the Nationals is a relatively low budget get together, so after paying out site fees, fuel, food, social hydration, etc, this sort of extra coin might be out of the question to some people. Some will throw it in the too hard basket and that is fair enough. However if we know of any additional starters, or are a member of another car forum that might be interested in tagging along then this is the place to discuss...

From what Ive seen of hill climbs and practice days locally, for cams events you need either a current cams license or a day pass, which is usually $20. I guess it makes sense that if they are going to insure the event they would need everyone to pay something towards it. Ive never had to organise an event but I would say that the temporary license forms would come part and parcel with holding an offical cams event. Ive never seen an event without the option. Its no problem from the drivers side, just a form for the event and a form for the day pass at the start of the day. And if you decide motor sport is your thing and want to convert it to a full cams license you have a certain amount of time to file for the full license and they take the cost of the day pass off of it.

I would assume cams is the way to go, but if there is a show stopper with them then keep in mind this other group - the australia autosport alliance. Ive done one track day under them, and they provide much the same as cams. http://australianautosportalliance.com/ It looks like their site was hacked at the end of last year but it looks like its fixed to me now, but google and firefox are both warning me about it.

He mentioned the day pass when we discussed pricing which we based on 10 cars. I assumed it was a track fee. It makes sense now that it is the CAMS license. Hopefully I'll get all the literature emailed to me with exact numbers. ..

Awesome I await the outcome of this.

I think pending the licencing probably see the numbers go up?

I also am happy for it (if it works out cheaper/easier) for your mate to time the event :)

If anyone has a problem with his. I have email.

It'll be worth sussing out if spectators are allowed and availability of food/drink (if at all) at the track and regulations for alcohol (obviously not for those racing!). If there is no other event planned at the time I reckon nearly everyone would want to come along and watch.

I definitely would come and watch. Not real keen on running as the car is currently handling like a cat in a sack and wont be repaired enough to be worth it in time.

Maybe we could charge a small entry fee and that can cover foods and drinks?

I'm sure everyone would be happy to do this?

(Worked for dinner in previous years especially at Port Macquarie lol)

I spoke to the guy again today and swapped email addys. Hopefully he'll send me all the details and pricing when he gets home. He said though that it would be in our best interest to get as many starters as possible... :)

Cool I'll check this tonight and see what comes of it.

I imagine Roddy would be keen to.

He isn't on the forum.
