Teh talkings

Post by Jonno »

Now that 2017 is done and dusted.

Commence the speakings for the next one here.

Two things to note and which were mentioned a fair amount to me over the weekend

I'm going to put a serious EOI for another track day.
This will be held on the Saturday - Costing involved dependant on activity AND location.

Before this is confirmed the probably more important EOI needs to be discussed.
As I mentioned to Andrew as we left I am impartial to where this event goes HOWEVER as it stands the event WILL REMAIN in NSW.

At this stage of the game we are getting decent numbers over the weekend but not at a stage where the event will move state to state.

To move state to state we need solid numbers and participation from EACH STATE. I.e QLD, NSW ACT & Victoria.
There's not a lot of interesting things in ACT so it's very unlikely the event would be there anyway.
However we must consider people driving from QLD and SA.

I'm more than happy to contact Two Shores (and they seem more than willing and we have a good thing going there) to get us all in for next year. Judging by the numbers we should be able to easily book out most of the camp ground again.

However I have the capacity this year to spend time contacting new van parks and track locations.
I've been proactive and dropped a line to the Marulan Driver Training Centre and they're offering us a few options.
Buy is about $150 and potentially plus licencing.

Opening this to a poll for now.
Please vote according to what you would like to see for next year. I know a lot of people are super keen to see it happen again.

I'm not taking this to facebook voting just yet. I want to try and keep the proper discussion on here so I can keep track of it and I don't know how to do a poll where no one can alter it on facebook.
I don't want this to become a s*#t slinging match of where it should why it should be there.
Simple click vote option
Then comment location and why.

Leaving this open for a month. IF the location IS to change we need adequate time to locate somewhere to stay and organise the details.
Cheers!

Its been like 4 years since the southerners didnt have to battle their way though sydney..
An inland trip would sort all issues regarding difficult to tow areas on the coast road...
And the Kiama is pretty...

Nothing like getting organized early...

Voted move somewhere else, for the following reasons:

1. For reasons i wont get into on here but which Jonno is well aware of, even a slight reduction in travel time next year would make my life a hell of a lot easier. If Kiama was the destination for eg [2hrs shorter/closer for victorians], it would make a huge difference in my ability to attend.

2. If relocation meant that we would be closer to/be able to hold a driving event wether it be skid pan, hill climb, track day, whatever - im definitely down for that. As a side note, we shouldve bloody gone karting this year but noooo we were too busy doing....what were we doing on saturday? Oh yeah the spitroast LOL

3. If a relocation further south helps with boosting numbers wether they be from adelaide or melbourne [doubtful i think], thats good too.

The Entrance/two shores works well though so i suppose it could be a good back up.

We went to the museum. I'd forgotten all about the karting lol.

Two Shores will be under the impression we will return. I did the same thing to the guys at Kiama. They don't book out the place till X amount of time anyway. I just usually call/email them to advise we won't be returning this year.

If I had to chose just one location it would probably be Kiama.
It is about an hour and a half from the excellent Marulan Driver Training Centre for those that want a track day and not much further to Wakefield Park Raceway.
Wakefield Park may prove a bit more expensive although there is more run off area and the speeds are generally higher than at MDTC.
There is also a relatively new Facebook page some track enthusiasts may be interested in checking out called "Circuit Drift Nights Awesome Drive Wollongong" which might be another option drifting the Kembla Grange Go-Cart track.

Additionally the Australian Motorlife Museum at Kembla Grange is another optional activity(approx. 30 kms from Kiama) plus all of the other seaside activities the Kiama/Shellharbour/Wollongong areas have to offer.

Having stated that I am in favor of any change that builds on the numbers that currently attend and focuses on a venue that offers ease of access and a variety of activities within reasonable distance of the selected accommodation.

I have had a look at the distance from all capital cities to Kiama as opposed to The Entrance and while it does tell it's own story it doesn't tell the complete story i.e. the agony inevitably endured by those from one state or another in negotiating Sydney's traffic issues especially at Easter. I do understand those that want a turn in not traversing Sydney and those saying that the current location is in danger of becoming a bit stale and fished out.

To remain transparent I am located close to Kiama, attended this years Central Coast event in difficult personal circumstances and will continue to support the Gemini Nationals regardless of location.

I just wish there was a way to make it viable for people from W.A. ,N.T. AND Tasmania to join in as well. Cheers.
