She's sitting hibernating in my garage at home, not a lot of spare time with acreage and a 2 year old lol. First priority is to get the white TC roadworthy so we can sell it, then I can play with the green car again. There's a fair bit needed, most pressing thing is to get the head done again as the valve guides are shot again (needs lash caps to improve the geometry I think) and the stem seals leak so bad it oil fouls the plugs within a couple of minutes of driving. Need to fit the new gears to the diff and machine up a solid spacer so it doesn't break another pinion shaft. Need to do something with the intake manifold as it's cracked again, I have a mate that's confident he can weld it so it doesn't crack again, i'll make a brace to go underneath it to the block aswell as I think harmonics are killing it. Will end up with a plazmaman intake on it once I have cash again too.. At some stage I will also give the engine a freshen up, it's been in the car since 2010, only thing that's come out since then is the head, I will likely rering/bearing the engine, fit one of my crank girdles and fit a copper h/g. If i'm financial enough I want to get the head redone with a new spec cam and bigger valves/more porting, the current head only flows 195cfm at 450 thou lift, current cam is only 460 thou so there's plenty to be gained, a mate's E1 i'm building has a 550 thou lift cam and 230cfm at that lift, and should be a lot easier on the guides than my 1993 spec Tighe cam.

And some time in the future I want to remount the engine further back (on stock Gemini engine mounts) and replace the piazza dissy converted to CAS to a crank and cam trigger setup so I have the room to do that.

Nice to hear an update Coxy.

Good luck with the refresh. I’m keen to know where the 550thou cam came from? Assuming from a blank billet? Mine has 500thou valve lift (303 at the lobe using 1.65 rocker ratio) but didn’t know we could get up there

My head is flowing 196cfm at 450 thou on the inlet - that’s just a standard oem head with a number 2 Casting - open chamber. I’ve got a brand new kidney bowl China head here but didn’t want to use it as the other head was ported and setup all those years ago (15 infact - and engine is yet to be started lol ) - keen to hear thoughts on the cam as I know the kidney bean heads can be ported to flow over 220cfm and from memory flow about 190-200cfm stock !

The OEM kidney heads flow well yes, the ports are the same as the OEM open chamber head, the aftermarket kidney heads have the horrendous 4ZC1 port and core size so you port through the wall before you get to 185cfm!! The aftermarket open chamber heads have the OEM style ports, well the ones from 10 years ago did anyway! That's what mine is, China head from 2009, ported out but not wild as I only have 44mm intake valves in it. The OEM open chamber head we had ported to suit 46mm valves flowed over 230cfm @28 at 600 thou, the cam is a Tighe made billet that was ground by Surecam. It cost over $1200 to get done. There is another possible cam manufacturer getting involved in the next year or so, i'll keep you posted on how that goes, but that will be a current spec grind with a lot faster ramp but better dynamics, 99% of the Gemini grinds we have now were designed many decades ago. My plan is to get my head redone with 46mm valves and use the new spec cam..

Sweet thank you. That’s interesting re the China heads. I can vaguely remember a post you made some time back about the kidney aftermarket heads being better than the open chamber heads - hmmmm

Great Info on the cam. Phil did mine but could only get 242 at 0.050” duration and 303 thou cam lift. Guess the billet gives that much more.

Mines got a 114LSA and slow ramp to go easy on valve seats and springs.

Keen to see results when you have them!

Ps just checked my head flow sheet - 197cfm at 500 thou (inlet); 143cfm @ 450 and 500 thou lift on the exhaust

242 duration @ 0.050 on the inlet
249 duration @ 0.050 on exhaust

Hoping this will hold to 8000rpm with the s364sxe

Hey Coxy

Nice thread!
Plazmaman are adamant that their G-series intake won't fit on the 4Z's. It's an expensive gamble to buy off photos alone.
Have you spoken to them about it? They think the distributor cap will foul, even although most of us now run without (CAS only).

Yeah IDGAF about the dissy lol, mine runs the dissy housing but no cap, and i'll be going CAS/CAS when I start throwing money at it again!

Little bit of an update:

SO I got married recently and I wanted to have the engine freshened up so I could have the car at the ceremony without gassing everyone out lol, so I reringed/bearing'd and girdled the motor while it was out! She's back together and running but yeah that misfire is still there. So i've been having a bit of a fire sale of parts i've had lying around for future projects and I bought a new Link G4X Fury ECU. The spec list on these things is huge, i'll be going DBW throttle with a Plazmaman intake (yet to fund and purchase), onboard digital lambda for self tuning, and they have just as fast a processor as a Motec M150, and they're made in NZ not China like a lot of the big name ecu's.. Main reason for the ECU change is that I want to cover it with sensors, and these ecu's have HUUUUUGE onboard data logging so i'll be able to see whats going on with this thing when it plays up, which is something the E8 just can't do. Will run a late model Triton throttle pedal. I can do individual cylinder tuning with it also so in the future i'll add 4x egt's. I'll be selling the E8 and loom complete and labeled if anyone's interested in it. Ditto my current intake manifold. I'd like to see 500hp atw with that setup still running BP98. Next step will be a fuel system change so I can run E85, which i'll use a cell with inbuilt swirl and A1000 pump. And hardline everything I can :)

Is that misfire always out of the same cylinder or is it random? Begining to sound more like a mechanical issue rather than fuel/ignition control
