I was the stooge up in the stands taking the outside footage, I never get tired of watching a Gem showing up the "real" drift cars

Yeah, we've pretty much agreed that now I need to get the Coupe on track asap so that he's not alone out there. Prove what the little Isuzus can really do!

What was really awesome, the day before the event, I just happened to meet someone working on one of the other cars (Old blue Fairlane... bleh but not bad I guess), who said that he was building up a Gem for drift as well. Not to mention at least two other people we know who are building them, and I think someone came into the garage on the day and told either me or Cazz about theirs as well.

Looks like Gems might just become really popular if this keeps up, thanks to guys like Stewy and Eli. Few better ways of getting some cool aftermarket opportunities than to get a chassis popular in drift. Look at Rollas and Silvias!
TD Sedan "Derrick/Dez"
TX Coupe "Zero": Longterm Zokusha/Drift Build.
TE Diesel Sedan: Turbo Sandpiper II Mockup (In Progress)
TE Sedan "Bella": Basic Battle Bitch
Hilux: Daily

TL;DR: STOP OFFERING ME GEMINIS!!!

Thanks guys!! :D Positive feedback makes all the crazy editing worthwhile - I put about 20-30 hours into the video, but I'm glad I did!! In my own little way I'm kind of living my dream being out there, I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves seeing a Gemini drift!

Stewart - love seeing your videos and pics, as soon as you have one camera you can have a ton of fun with it. My camera's just a travel digi camera with HD video, grabbed a suction mount off of ebay, and a few batteries/SD cards. I moved it around all day, some spots on the car were better than others, but one of my favs was the incar where you can see the steering wheel!

Can't wait to see more Gems out there drifting, one day if I get the resources/opportunity, I want to go to an event with Stewart, get some tandems happening, and Ethan - can't wait til you're out there. The more people do it, the more we can help each other out and bounce ideas off of each other!!

Next up for the car:
- Start this 4ZD1 strip-down and build
- Try to get the brakes sorted
- More front camber (possibly drilling out upper balljoint slots)
- Getting some REAL wheels - most likely Works... - although it'll still be 13"s on the back 'til I have more power, the 50-56rwkw just can't cut the mustard with big wheels!

Hey guys! Sorry I've been slack with pics, I've uploaded them on my Facebook group Eli "The Drift Panda" Duykers

AND, I have a whole new edited video!!

http://youtu.be/SSrSQY2KeW4?hd=1

Stadium Drift SA Prac at Tailem Bend, 18/02/12, kicking off the season. Lots of fun was had, another hot one at 36 degrees or so, but the car drove great all day with no real issues. At one point I had to stomp the brakes and the (blocked off) rear circuit built some pressure, but I just cracked the bleeder and it was fine!

One thing though.. I lowered the back end by removing the spring spacers I'd put in previously, and putting in some spring rubbers to keep enough clearance.. BUT, the back end felt really vague! Almost like it was steering from the back... Very weird. Tyres were brand new Bob Jane All Rounders in 175/70R13, and were pretty slippery really (moreso than 155/165s).. so I don't know if it's an actual handling/balance issue or just the tyres. I'll probably leave things be for the moment and see how it drives on another pair of tyres at Round 1..

Oh, and also, the steer tyres are ffffoooorrked, they were second hand and I've had them on there for a year, so I had some understeer that didn't help! Still, all in all, the car went great, just had to drive around the grip issues! Enjoy the vid :D

Thanks man!! I'm trying to get better with the editing, I'm definitely getting faster at editing which is a relief.

As for cage - it's deeefinitely on the "to-do" list, but will probably happen when the turbo build happens, when the car's all apart. At the moment I'd be scared of adding weight, although side impact bars would be real nice... When you overcook into a corner and end up and 90 degrees, and see another car coming at you, it's a bit freaky!

Highlight for the day (besides a couple of good tandem runs) was hitting the first corner at 120km/h - there were definitely some guys carrying more speed than that, but I think I was still one of the "faster" cars on entry, which is sweet! Not bad for the old girl. The extra run up helped.

Post-Stadium (SA Round 1) check-in:

Well, I may as well have spent the first half of the day on the trailer.. but it got better from there. It was absolutely drenched when we got there, even my better rear tyres had zero grip, flunked first judged battle pretty bad, then patches of the course dried up completely while others were wet - basically, the car and course were completely undriveable, especially to try and natural drift. Second judged battle was downright embarrassing. For the third (final) judged battle, the course was pretty dry, I still had the grippy rears on but was happy with how it went.

After that, I threw my normal skidders on the back and the fun began. I took Dad out for the first time, and had a blast, and with a dry track I had great fun tandeming and chasing other cars. There were more than a few real nice close tandem runs! And as per last event, the car ran all day without any serious mishaps, and without damage! Yay!

Other interesting points included getting bogged off of the trailer, and leaving the main camera at home. My awesome friend Ashley drove all the way back to get it! Unfortunately between that and a bunch of corrupt files (seriously WTF, why was the world against me videoing this time?) I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel to make a vid, but I'll try...

However, the following day GemiSA were having a cruise, so I left the trailer loaded and tagged along with the track Gem... Took a billion pics, I'll post them soon.

Not really :( I had one crack only, just before open session started. I came in hot and tried to throw it hard, but when turning left out towards the first outer clipping point (just before initiation), my enthusiasm stepped the back out and aimed me at the tyres. That's how I cleaned up the back left corner a few rounds back, so I was lucky to reel it back in - the new Potenza RE002 steer tyres single-handedly saved me from having an off. Anyway it screwed my initiation, and while I probably got close to 90 degrees, it was all washed out and rubbish :(

Kind of frustrating, because I didn't really get a clean shot at putting it at the angle I wanted - it let go before I really got to do what I wanted to. The lead into the first corner is a bit sketchy - you have to sort of weave around a few points which, at the speed, upsets the car and tries to put it into slides! However I'm determined to have a proper shot at this, so next time I'm up there I'm going to try again, with a longer run-up, shallower (shittier) line and some handbrake to throw it in, instead of a flick that I don't really have room for!

However, I had a bit of a photoshoot the day after, here's the un-edited results (I might edit a few if I cbf'd).
