Okay so I didn't post vids from the wet day back in October, but they were all a bit rubbish.
BIG UPDATE!!!
I had the thing dyno tuned by a carby/old car specialist (Kent Town Auto Tune) - I told him to take his time and do what he felt needed doing, in hte end I paid $670-ish, he removed and cleaned the dizzy, mapped its advance on a special machine, and adjusted the springs/weights to suit the engine. Rejetted the carby - before stumbling across quite a few things wrong with it, internal leaks and blockages, faulty this and that, so he fixed the lot, as well as replacing a few things here and there (I managed to foul my fairly new plugs during the misfiring etc, and the air filter was ancient). Final dyno result was (don't laugh) 56rwkw from 4300rpm-5200rpm (only deviated by 1kw over that range). He also said my new-old-stock leads were crap, and that he tuned it for 98RON (it was running 91 at the time of dyno-ing). Figures aside, it went like a shower of s*#t compared to before, especially low-mid range.
So today I took her out to Tailem's first practice of the year. Tow car (R31) was great compared to most of the 4x4s we've tried. Had a whole stack of tyres to burn. Couldn't wait!
On the first run, well, it went great, then cut out altogether once or twice. Stalled once without warning in the pits and didn't want to start, then a few minutes later was away and running perfectly. I laid down five good runs, had an awesome time, then turning off of the track at the end of a run it cut out again, and wouldn't start. There was no spark! Got it into the pits, fiddled for hours to no avail. It was hard to see if the module was signalling the coil properly with my digi multimeter. Air gap on the RB variable reluctor pickup was fine, but I tried cleaning it and adjusting it a little each way just in case. Resistance checked coil - OK - tried powering and discharging, and the leads to power/ground would spark but I couldn't make it fire a spark, but perhaps this is because of the dirty "break" of me removing the leads. Anyway.
Gave up and figured I'd just enjoy a day at Tailem without stress for once, so I helped out a few of the other drifters fix their cars, hung out with a bunch of mates and had a good day. Loaded the car onto the trailer with the starter and half clutch (it loved it! seriously, no complaints at all hahaha). Got it home, went to unload the same way, and the thing started first time, and ran like a dream for ages. My theories are, module overheating (grounded RB module, floating, all insulated but no heatsink!), module dead, coil dead, or alternator wiring! The alternator light did come on a bit, but the battery wasn't losing power. This car's a wiring nightmare, so I'm thinking of ripping the lot out and starting from scratch!
Anyway, VIDEOS!!!

Cheers for the positive feedback guys, yeah I was just getting my eye in after more than four months since last driving the thing, just starting to have fun when it crapped itself and lost spark and ended the day I had more rears with me with a tad more grip too, I reckon I would have started smashing it as the day went on... I reckon I could have done 20-30 runs if the car had held out! Can't wait for next time, I was nowhere near happy with my entries (had fun though)! I wanted bigger scando's earlier, and to hold it later and wider to try to make the last apex. Ah well, was sooooo fun, on the third run I almost nailed it but accidentally shiftlocked second because I hadn't revved it up in time. Fourth one was fun though!
I definitely need more power, it'd make the first corner soooo much easier to just spin the wheels halfway through (or at the end when I'm running out of distance) but to be fair, a harder entry would achieve the same thing with more speed and spectacle, so I should work on that first! Power would have made light work of the bowl (big long left) though. I kept having to try to brush the dirt to keep it happening haha. Nah I've never drifted at night! My headlights are playing up at the moment, just one of many wiring issues, so probably a good thing. Otherwise it'd be good, it'd keep temps down (driver and car)! As for the classes, we have Pro, Level 2 and Street (Stadium Drift format, Street is just a loose term for newbies). After a few events I actually got recommended by the organisers to enter L2, which I was pretty surprised and happy with, being that even in street, I'd usually have less than half the power of literally everyone else. Now I think I do alight in L2, whilst I'm clearly handicapped for speed and also cursed by a few straightens from lack of power, I still manage to hit the corners hard and pull off a few things so I look vaguely in the same ballpark as the others
Plans? Well I've got these fender mirrors on the way:
Should set the car off, give it the proper Japanese Isuzu look I want. That and a nice low front lip would be awesome, but right now I've got bigger fish to fry.
After losing spark, as well as extensive electrical issues on this car, I've decided to rewire the whole lot. I'll leave the wiring to the taillights, that's about it. Stuff off ignition barrel, rip any unused looms out, and wire "run" and "start" wires, wire the alternator, starter, fuel pump and ignition, lights and gauges and be done with it. That's my first priority at this point.
I'm also going to replace the ignition module, it's an RB item which is mounted in mid air, grounded and insulated with duct tape. I'm fairly sure these must have used the dizzy housing as a heatsink from standard, and that mine's overheating. Either way, it's dodgy, so I want to put my Bosch module in, and replace the coil. The leads I'm using are NOS s*#t, so I've got some spiral wound Top Guns on the way. They were meant to be here in time for the track day, but they ran one business day late, so they'll be here tomorrow/today... oh well.
Besides just sorting out the issues, current plans are:
-Custom rate springs, the ones in there are still too soft
-Proper shocks! I want adjustable and good, I've just heard Gaz aren't as good as Koni/Billies, so I might look at one of the latter... but it's way more expensive. I want something that'll keep my rear springs captive, as well as offering me some adjustments.
-Turbo build! I just arranged to swap my spare C1's bare block for an E1 lower end, so I'm doing that, then I'll start chipping away on that build. Forgies, D1 crank, spool rods, new E1 head, lumpy cam with no overlap, and heavy duty valvesprings. Put that together and then I can start thinking about turbos and manifolds. I can't see myself affording to get it all running before next year which sucks, especially since it's gonna eat gearboxes for breakfast....

Agreed Zep! I have a dodgy one here that I want to patch up, but it'll take a while to do and I haven't exactly started yet haha. I'd hate to put one on and smash it straight away, but chances of a big head-on drifting aren't overly high. Definitely on the cards, who knows when though!

get some R&D on getting more lock......lolz
cut and shut that s*#t and hit it at full noise dont pussy out..
yeh you will have to do this if you want to use up all the track and drift the whole turn/corner...but dont get too cocky like i did and take it on too fast (150kph) and then loose it...lol...might tipit up on its side like some unco driver did....not to name any names..............lol...yeh it was me.....lol..
got it on video....got to figure out how to upload it onto the computer....

Hahaha, yeah I try to go haaaard into the corner, but it's a conflict of interest, the corner kinks, then straightens, then tightens a lot really late. I'm flat chat at the corner, initiate at full throttle, but to increase angle I tend to lift off and let the car natural. I can't make it wheelspin reliably here, so it takes a bit of guts to fang it through the right, it can be unpredictable... but I was working on it! The last run I loved my speed through the first corner, but the last apex was still f***ing annoying and I just couldn't hit it! I think they actually moved it into the wrong spot for this event, everyone was hitting it at like, jogging pace... But yeah, my main aim is to carry more speed into the first corner, and get out my bigger scando's again (see the vid of me driving Ethan's maroon TD sedan).
The main kick in the balls was that I was hoping for tons of track time to practise all of this, and get my speed up and get some bigger lines, but I only got five runs and the car/ignition module kicked it. I was fairly happy with my last run, except the S at the end was bollocks, needed more angle. The funny thing is though, that I was keeping up with most of the imports! I mean, when they put the hammer down they were gone, but my corner speed's right up there with most of the street/L2 guys! Can't wait to get some real pace happening with better rears.
Slimer, definite vidorban haha, just whack it on Youtube!
In other news, I swapped my spare C1 bare block for an E1 lower end today, it's gonna be quite a while before I can start this build, but it's one step towards my crazy hybrid idea of a D1-cranked E1 with spool rods, forgies, a decent cam and turbo...

Good stuff orange_gem, make sure you/a friend gets loads of pics and vids! I wanna see tandems and big entries!
Well I've made up a loom for my bosch ignition module, gonna solder it in tomorrow as well as fit my new Top Gun leads. The headlights have a weird issue now too, when I turn them on, one side's fine, but there's a buzzing noise and the other side doesn't light up, but that side's indicator and parker light come on constantly. It's weird as hell, they used to work fine, I don't know how it could have re-wired itself so significantly. If anyone has any ideas let me know, because Saturday week I'll be entering my first Mallala event - evening drift practice, and should be doing billions of tandem runs with a good mate of mine, Benny Schumacher, in his beige 4AGE KE70. He's a bloody good driver, I've already learnt a thing or two from him, so tandems with him should be awesome.
Might have to dodgy-roll the rear guards to use the spacers at the back though. Sorry in advance, paint.
