looking good man. I left my passanger seat in cause we get to take passangers every now and then. Cant wait to see it in action. Alot of people wont be able to do the speeds you do. Cause they will all be going faster.

I will be, as well as pit crewing for Eli (which basically means I'll help change his tires between runs lol), and anyone who's seen my YT stuff will know I don't take s**tty phone vids.

If all goes to plan to plan on my end in the next few months there will be two Gems out drifting in SA. Tandem runs together would be a real feast for the eyes

Let me know when you want to pull the rest of the interior out man, happy to lend a hand as always.

But I do :D I'll take ones like I did last time, but I'll try to fix the exposure issue. I may also try to make a camera mount real fast for the girlfriend's old camera... No promises there though. I was thinking of making up a bracket that replaces a mirror for some cool outside shots, but if I get friendly in the tandems (which is fairly likely since it's my first time doing tandems!) I'd write off the camera.. It's not amazing but I think the girlfriend would still be pissed! Hahaha...

The other idea is trying to make up or modify a tripod, or even a four-legged one if they exist, and mounting it to the passenger seat brackets, and taping my phone to the mirror as a second camera. Hmm...

With the rear bumper, I've been considering making up a fibreglass one like this one:

But it probably won't happen for a while, and the chrome one just looks so damn cool!

I use a cheap Suction cap mount from Hong Kong on the inside of my back window or side window, looking forward .. When you put camera's on the outside , you always get a horrible wind noise that f&*ks it up , you need a wind sock thingo , or remote Microphone or just accept that your noise will be s*#t. And we wanna hear your motor , not wind !

I was a bit scared with these things being so cheap , but honestly they work good , are solid and dont shake and have never fallen off ..
They screw into any small to medium still or video cam , for some larger cams you will need a bigger mount.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Car-Window-Cup-S ... ccessories
Unfortunately you wont get it in time for the 28th..

..I usually take off my interior mirror so the view out the windscreen is better , just make sure your pointing straight and check your footage or your videos will turn out like mine and look funny.

My mate gave me an idea , we should remove our interior mirror and make a bracket that screws in those holes lookin down and forward like a bonnet cam on daytona :D hopefully next time im out i can do that and remember to use my wideangle lens ..

Get some good footage Hachi ..

Eli your nice sexy bumpers will get dents out there bro ..

Heh, I'm pretty sure that's the same PF that I saw for sale through Yahoo Japan not long ago. Approx $10,000AUD imported and complied... *sigh*

Anyway, your phone actually does take nice quality footage, I was referring to my useless Samsung. I've got my Fuji S1500 for spectator and incar stuff once I have a fixed mount on the aluminium 4 point in my Gem. Hell, you can borrow it for some in car runs on the 28th if you want, I don't mind. It never gets glare problems when mounted to the rear vision mirror in mine.
I still wish my little digicam hadn't been nicked as I would use that for outside shots, but I suppose I can pick a cheapo one up somewhere if need be, and tape over the mic supposedly blocks out the majority ofwind noise.

I'm with GEMWRC though, those suction mounts can be really handy, I'd have picked one up ages ago if I wasn't so bloody lazy

...and yes, please please pleeeease don't run the chrome bars for long. I have a s**tload of TG bars I will donate to the cause, so they stay nice and and dent free. Hence why mine will run plastic even though I have a perfect set of base TE bars the car came with (minus one end cap on the rear one).

Ordered my camera mount, cheers Dazz :D Took me all of about ten seconds after clicking the link to click buy.

That's actually my second best chrome rear bar. The best one's going on my Abi, my TE resto/PF60 project. I definitely decided not to put a real nice one on there - but taking a step back it's still fairly good as these things go. If I see a worse one that won't make it look like a total pig I'll put it on  I think I'm mindful of it looking like a s@*tter, as a Gemini with fairly ordinary offset/width wheels, stock guards and a TG front end (Commodore factor) with paint coming off the grille etc I'm really mindful of it looking like a s@*tter, streeter or ricey attempt at making a little old "Australian" car into a Japanese drift car. Hmm. Need 0 offset, major flares and fibreglass rear bar...

Ethan I didn't think you'd be as into drift, but I think you'd be really good at it with some practise, and I think you'll really like it if you give it a go. It'd be awesome to tandem (whoops, typo) another well-styled Gem, might make the import boys think twice about them being tasteless bogan cars!

I've been interested in Drift for longer than Touge, harks back to my days as an Initial D fanboy  , as for the most part it got me into cars even before I started messing around with mechanical stuff.

Reason that I never really tried it once I got into Gems, was because I was on my Ls forever so was always nervous as f**k, even now I'm too reserved a driver to want to drift on the street in 95% of situations, and for a long time I looked at a Gemini as the "wrong" car to do it in.
You, along with many others, have long since convinced me otherwise.

I'd be happy to Touge with someone else again, I've gotten a lot better over last few months, and pending new tires I've got a lot of room to improve. Still I know in your case the K-banger isn't the most ideal car for it

Anyway, Tailem was yesterday. Got lots of vid footage, but here's a teaser pic for now:

Just happened to pick the perfect view spot for the extreme entry and L2 battles. Will be uploading these along with all of Eli's runs; he did great!

Yup, time for an update.

Was pretty busy all week getting ready for Stadium Drift. After removing the rear parcel shelf and 6x9s there were three holes in the metal shelf, so I had to dodgy up some plates and weld them in. Felt pretty fun welding above the gas tank. I also had some major charging problems as many may have seen in Gem Chat - after changing alternators three times, and the regulator once, I discovered the wiring had been redone by some idiot and they'd missed a wire, the signal wire to the reg. So I patched one in, it works, slightly jittery but oh welll, at least now I have 13.8 volts, not 18. Also bolted on a front tow point, ripped out half of the back seat etc. Had a real late night finishing it off and getting it on the trailer, then couldn't sleep, I reckon I had 2-3 hours at best..

Anyway, my group at Tailem (street class, ie amateur) consisted of five Skylines, six Silvias, two 180SX's, a VL with an RB20DET, a KE70/AE71, and two VN SS's haha... So I was mostly pretty outclassed, but apparently I still did pretty well in my group! The track layout was great, but corner 1 was pretty challenging, especially with low power. After the first lot of runs they actually moved the street class starting point back for me, about half the way to where the pro's started :D

I had an awesome time, but had issues with tyres. The tyres I started on were my good old Sonar 155/80R13's stretched on 6" wide wheels (lol), down to about 30%, but they skidded great, just enough grip, but predictable and smooth. The whiteline rear swaybar worked wonders, the sus could still do to be a tiny bit stiffer, but it's real nice. Anyway, the first corner was real hard to get without big power or a big run up, I kept initiating when the corner started, then running out of speed and having to straighten and re-initiate. Also, you come in in third, and if your hands are full with handbrake and steering it's hard to find the time to change to second for the S across the skidpan. Other than that I could link the whole course, I'm amazed I had the power to get the outside corner around the skidpan and the S bends at the end. It was right in between second and third, so I had a few little straightens around the long corner but mostly it loved it, I didn't feel too underpowered and had an awesome time. I learnt so much about throwing the car around at speed, and high speed power sliding. More power would be awesome, but suddenly I feel like it's more a luxury than a necessity. I think my driving can still improve a lot with my current power.

My curse throughout the day though was, as soon as the 13s lost grip (announced with two spins in one run) I went onto a pair of Piazza wheels I bought with old tyres with a ton of tread. Turns out one was a retread, and chunks of rubber started peeling after a few runs, so I took them off. The next pair second hand too, and as it turns out one had a wider and taller tyre, the other a smaller and much grippier tyre! They were utter balls! And they were steel wheels and I brought mag wheel nuts, which I thought would be fine until one nut chewed through the wheel... Which made me worry about the others... Anyway, those tyres pulled hard to one side with the locker, and threw the balance way the hell out. I could barely drive with them, I could get the thing real sideways but it kept catching me out. I wish I had a big pile of the Sonars, they skidded great...

Although my driving got better throughout the day, the tyres got so much worse that my first runs were better overall haha, with less spins... But towards the end I tried big scando's into the first corner which worked really well, it was scary at first at the top of third, they weren't even from wheelspin or handbrake, just swerve across and back with the throttle flat, the back got loose both ways, really smooth and got me into the corner sideways with good line and speed... Had one epic entry that would have held all the way through, but s*#t tyres kicked in and after thinking about it for a few seconds at full lock they just couldn't pull out and looped right before the first (inside) clipping point... but both of my judged runs were craphouse, I spun in both I think and they were just generally sub-par. I've been told I was at least around the middle or slightly higher in my class, so I'm pretty happy with that, and I know I could have done WAY better with better tyres, and that next time I go out I'll be a better driver. Track time's really made me better in leaps and bounds, I mean, I've learnt a lot on the street, but I've learnt so much more and so much faster on the track just from being able to push hard.

Anyway, at the end of the day, I started it up to put it on the trailer and guess what? Clacklacklacklacklack!!! After not missing a beat all through the day's thrashing, the poor, tired old G180Z that came with my track car seems to have spun a bearing! I've actually never spun a bearing before, but it sounds too serious for head gasket. It increases linear with revs, so I don't think it's a rod bearing - must be a main. To be honest I'm not even bothered! That engine's been so great, and for what I paid it was all a bonus. And for it to spin a bearing AFTER a whole day's fantastic drifting is fine by me! Sure beats it going in one of the judged runs or, worse, at the very start of the day!

Now I'm met with a conundrum. Do I rebuild the G180Z, or do I hurry up the build of the 4ZC1-T that I bought recently for it? (I now have two C1T builds, one for the Piazza, one for the track car) I'm thinking of doing a quick build on the G180, simply because the C1T build will take a while, I don't have the money and it will need an ECU, turbo, manifold, cooler, piping, tune etc, and that could take me six months or more to achieve. If I just freshen up the G180Z I'll have something to get me by until it's ready. Anyway the girlfriend took loads of pics and some vids, and I took vids of most runs with in-car cameras, but all of that needs editing and going through, so I'll leave it for another night. Imageshack's being a useless kent, so here's a few pics from FB/etc that actually decided to upload:

Rendered most of my vids and am uploading them to YT now, but it's gonna take aaaaaaaaaages. Over 1.5 GB file size each :(
Hope it turns out decent enough.

BTW Eli, did you happen to get any of the footage from the MotoPro those guys mounted in the cabin at midday? I was interested in how they turned out compared to the one you were using.
