Jonno's Stock Red TE Gemini
Hi all i thought i'd get around to wacking some pics up of my Gem.
Basically when i first got it, the car was f*#cked
-The steering rack was buggered
-The steering column was slightly bent.
-Get this the drivers side suspension spring was snapped clean in half
and was helt together with the dirt and s*#t that built up from me driving
around town.
Anyways i got that all replaced.
Sprayed it in Monaro Red (same colour as my dads monaro)
Did up the interior, stereo etc etc
That was all done as my HSC major project. I think i got 75/100 for it and if the retarted school computer would accept my draft portfolio i woulda got a 97
And basically decided after the head gasket went in it to upgrade the EFI 2.6L
Between Alan, Pat, Craig, Danman & myself have modded the Gem and the engine.
Alans pretty much built this machine customising this and that.
The Engine mods (Just to fit the engine) are as follows:
- The engine mounts - We use the standard Gemi mounts but backwards so that the 4ze1 sat further away from the firewall.
- The firewall was slightly modded so that the distributor would clear properly
- Got the motor in on the mounts, but i didn't know that the alloy rodeo sump would hit the cross member in the engine bay. So i had to get myself a sump to suit. Thanks to gemboy for supplying me one. So that got fitted and the engine slipped in easy!
(The sump pick up was slightly moddified so that it sat nicely in the sump)
-We decided to use the standard Gemini 5speeder as it was less work to put it in than the rodeo one.
-Bolted it all up.
-Because of the EFI i changed all the hoses aswell to EFI rated hose.
-Hooked the surge tank up (Thanks CUTLOW for supplying that) with the fuel pump.
-Alan ripped into the wiring loom seperating all the irrelivant s*#t and started to find what wire connected to what.
-Decided to piss off the old heater box and put the wiring loom through the existing hole (Alan made a plate to go over the hole)
-mounted my thermo fan on the engine side of the radiator
-Started on the wiring. Managed to get it pretty much sorted but when it came to crunch time the car it did not run...
-Innitially we thought it was a seized 4th cylinder, so the motor got stripped down and found that the cylinder infact was in good condition.
-With this it was sent to Alans workshop and he check over it. With the suspision of a broken bearing, fkd crank those sort of things he looked over it.
The problem was the 4zc1 Piazza sump was restricting the crank from turning, so the crank would hit the side of the sump and make it feel like its locking up..
After the sump being customised to suit this problem it was fitted and the piston freely moved up and now like normal.
Testing the motor again to see if it worked found that somewhere the wiring had gone wrong, this meant that the injectors and the distributor wasn't getting any power what so ever.
Re-wired and fixed that and found that my loom was short a power transistor.
Ok thats fine so i towed the Gem in the middle of the night across town (Literally From my place, which is out of ACT to the south side)
Anyways the Gem has been there for 2 nights now and Alan has had no success at all in getting it up and running.
So after all that hassle its off to the auto electrician to find out what the problem is.
Feel free to comment.
Cheers and goodnight
Jonno
Here are some pics of the car itself
I have a full write up on my internet site.
I thought i'd move it to OzGem cause i know atleast it wont get deleted if i move the forum to my own server, seeing as i dont actually own the site.

For those interested.
Last night the engine was started
runs fines.
The computer was shooting a few error codes which Alan is looking into.
I actually got to drive the Gem for the first time in months!!!!
Such a good feeling.

Well i realised the Gem to the Nations Capital Friday night.
It was a great feeling to be able to roll around in the Gem, Just like old times except with more power!!!
Oh and flashy rims
Still a few things to finish as yet, but should be getting in contact with the Engineer this week so fingers crossed it goes well...
heres some pics from Friday nights meet.
