Firebug's TF track car gallery thread...
Re: Firebug's TF track car gallery thread...
Yea I was just saying because a mate down here has an escort with the same setup I'm doing and they had a hell of a time with idling and poor running they tried a recirc setup but ended up moving the tb

Re: Firebug's TF track car gallery thread...
That's the plan. Need to have it finished and and bugs ironed out before then though...Jonno wrote:Cool!! Hillclimb nationals next year?
Apparently it is 'Rhone Green' or spinach s*#t green as I like to call it, which was the original colour on the car. I decided to keep the factory colour to save time and effort doing all the jambs and back of panels to match. I look back now and should have gone with a nicer/wilder colour but it is what it is now. Besides, if it looks fast, people will expect it to be fast, and I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's expectations.moley wrote:Very tidy. The paint looks completely different is it exactly the same colour? It's a shame you had to strip the interior that green was just plain sexy :/
I had the interior up for grabs on this forum for ages with little to no interest. I expected that though as the dark green wasn't high on the sought-after list for most people. It was in pretty good nick though when I gave it away, hopefully went to good use... Ian??
The TB is after the SC which does present some problems with the pump running hot. I have done a lot of reading though and I will need a recirculating valve in between the SC and TB to circulate air when not on demand. A BOV could also work but I'd like to do some more research before going ahead with this method. Moving the TB in front of the SC is the other option. However from what I've read this way can be a bitch to tune and have idling issues. I guess this will all be discovered in the future testing...moley wrote:Is your throttle body after your supercharger? If so will it work properly like that? - Yea I was just saying because a mate down here has an escort with the same setup I'm doing and they had a hell of a time with idling and poor running they tried a recirc setup but ended up moving the tb
Thanx Merv...Frederick Stienheld wrote:Looks good man!
Thanx Sam, nah no sticky tyres yet. Probably one of the last things I'll buy so they dont go hard sitting around waiting for me to finish this bloody thing . I have a BOV that I acquired sometime over the last couple of years so this might be a posiblity. Going to try and avoid the sneezy sound if I can help it. Don't wanna sound too much like the turbo guys.202Gem wrote:Top work mate, looks like its all but there, I did notice there was no sticky looking tyres on it yet though ??
The throttle body is still in the factory location according to the last pic! I think it will need a blow off valve to work properly, but I'm not sure only had experience with turbos easy fix if it is needed though.
As far as delco tuning Firebug, happy to help you with some tuition if you want to stick with the factory computer and real time tune it.
ps. like the colour, I used to have an LH Torana very similar colour, I liked it a lot till it got bent
I reckon the factory computer is the way to go. I'm not going to run this thing on the edge, just a nice safe tune at 12psi. I'm thinking I might get the brakes sorted before we look at the tuning, just in case we need to stop for any reason. After that I might hit you up come have a look at the setup and see if you can make it work...
Thanx Andy, yeah that's the general consensus is that it will get hot. However all of those comments I read came from guys not running an intercooler. The short CRS pipe to the TB that they run is very short and small in diameter, causing that air to get compressed and hot very quickly. The theory with the IC setup is that there is a much larger air mass in between the SC and the TB, therefore taking longer to accumulate heat. Also this will not be idling around in traffic, which is also responsible for the pump to soak up heat due to a closed TB. But I'm not dismissing anything anyone is saying. I'm with the majority in thinking it will get hot, or at least hotter than desirable, so a bypass or TB move is definitely on the table...ajs991 wrote:It'll get the s*)ts and make hot things if its trying to force air no where. From minimal reading I did recently they need a recirc valve so when the tb is closed its pretty much turning in its own air, if that makes sense.
Looks too good for a track hack Bill!
Thanx mate, I'll send you a text asap...DaveHAT wrote:Very tidy & well planned /thought out as usually mate.

Re: Firebug's TF track car gallery thread...
oh one thing while im thinking of it ....
have just been putting the heads back on my brothers VP V6 Turbo, and we had issues with the boost blowing gaskets out .... if you haven't already the best solutions i've found is to block the PCV (welsh plug is a common fix) and to then remove the vent hose from the valley to throttle body and put that into a breather .....
the way it normally works is the breather from the valley goes in before the butter fly so it just gets filtered air as the PCV sucks out from the manifold, but this gives the crank case full boost too!
also found putting it before the turbo just made the turbo suck alot of oil into the inlet, so breather tank was the solution.
i believe from the pics your motor is S1 V6, so i think it has the breather on the tappet cover instead of the valley ? either way its the hose that goes into the TB before the butterfly and its about half inch i think.

Re: Firebug's TF track car gallery thread...
Ok ok, here goes...
Thanx to some much needed help and advice from Sam (202Gem) I have got a little further towards a track ready car.
New wheels were in order as the old rims were just too close to the calipers, even with wheel spacers there was about 1mm from inside of rim to caliper clearance. So late last year I went out and bought some second hand 16" wheels. Some careful measuring suggested they would fit nicely over the brakes and not hit the guards. They were also lighter than the 15's that I had on there. They were a little rough with rash and peeling paint...
Once the old tyres were off we discovered one rim had 2 dents on the inside edge. So off to the wheel repairer it went. Was pretty cheap and came back perfectly round. Then off to the sand blasters to shed all the flaky paint...
Then they received a very quick sand to remove the worst of the gutter rash. These are track wheels so a little character is ok. Then they were etch primed and given a couple of coats of satin black...
Wrapped in sticky tyres...
Fitting the new shoes was a different story. Plenty of clearance for the brakes, but the rim touched the bottom of the shock at full droop. I would rather do without spacers so I moved the lower shock mount up and inward. Now the tyre just touches the shock at full droop. I'm pretty happy with that...
A couple of new fuel filters and an 044 pump now feeds the fuel to the front. New blow off valve installed. Catch can is now in and ready to be plumbed to the pcv. Fuel pressure regulator also in and ready to go when I buy more fuel line...
Harnesses finish off the inside for now...
Dusty and in need of a wash...

It's Motorspray Super Enamel. Listed as flat black but it is clearly satin. I just picked it up from my local bloke...DrewZa86 wrote:PORN! Thanks for sharing. What brand of satin black is that?
