Attached for safe keeping hey ..
Heres some pics . Loom in , see the extra harness that for amp gauges ..

Washer bottle in after cleaning it furiously inside and out I think its up to standard .
Also had some nice new hose and plugged that in . measured the old ones so it was identical lengths at the tee piece..
Pulled out the stash of washer jets . have about 15 Gemini ones and only 3 with the actual jet inside still ..
Found some nice bolts that match the originals and screwed those in around the engine bay..

Luckily I kept all these plastic clips from another bonnet . 9 in total for the bonnet , 4 for the guards. Cleaned them hardcore with a toothbrush sized wirebrush as they came off a Diesel SLX and were covered in grease .. Sprayed them with WD40 before install .
Yet to polish the trims.. But getting the screws in is like a win for me anyway as finding the right screws seems to be my biggest challenge . Same screws as the heater cover . ;)

Had a quick look at 4 wiper motors , had no idea where to start so gave up on that and started rubbing the fuel and brake lines with a red scotchbright .. FML

Ok gang , so got a little bit more done.
Painted the whole underneath the car .. It was covered in brown red gravel dust from in the country or something ??
I quickly rubbed it back with a scotchbrite and wire brush to remove any loose stuff and some of the built up dust ..
The whole car was brown underneath from it ..

Then I brushed on some Rustkill satin black enamel under the guards and floor pan ..

Also brought a s*#t tonne more parts and stripped down the seats and engine , both had some surprises

Pics soon .. Maybe tomozza

A friend of mine must have seen this on facebook or something.

He showed me the pics of the motor the other night. Dam that's f*#cking hectic! Looks like 30 years of s*#t + chemiweld and whatever other engine stop leak/be quiet/run 'better' s*#t they could throw in it.

Seats aren't actually in that 'bad of nick' which is a positive.
The rest is looking good. Painting the diff and cross member will set that under body off!

Then get filthy first drive out of the workshop...
Ask me how I know this happens :'(

Thats what happens when you leave coolant in an engine long term - it begins to crystalize. Thats why there are recommendations on the back saying it needs changing every X years.

Engine going back together completely standard Darren? If your after the factory vinyl for a retrim theres a mob down this way that supplies it. Fabtex or All-Fab...cant remember which one is their current name.

Thanks for the comments guys . I thought it was the coolant as its still green , but Farkkking hell I have never seen it that bad before ... And of course its the engine I want to use that looks like s*#t ..

Im boring the G161 out to 87mm for G200 pistons , using a Nikki , TX intake/headers ported TX head and small cam I have that doesnt change the idle at all

Coxys other half is doing the seats for me .

I have a blog type of thing on facebook called Gypsylife..

....

Will electronic Ignition still work through a ballast resistor ?

I thought i could be sneaky and run The reluctor RB Gemini type Electronic ignition

Found this magazine about 8 months ago. There is very little info and pictures of Gypsy vans online and im surprised no one mentioned it before..

My mates found some old car magazines and in Van Wheels 10 (Pre StreetMachine) it had an article with a red Gypsy and 1 picture .. It mentioned Issue 9 had a Gypsy Road test !!!
I went straight to ebay with that information and found Van Wheels 9 for $50 and this is the road test article ..

Electronic ignition should still work with the ballast resister. But there is no reason why you can not leave the ballast resistor in place but disconnect the wires.

Seen the coolant crusty s*#t before plenty of times, not as bad as yours though. One of Jonnos engine was bad but not quite that far. Never seen that magazine article before and I have most of them [admittedly wheels, modern motor etc]. Not surprised many people dont know about it though....Van Wheels wasnt exactly anyone heres generation/typa thing. Was pretty much dead by the time the TE Gypsy rolled around  Good read, thanks for scanning that.

As for the ballast bit, you want the full 12V to the coil so bypass it. You can leave it there like OTD said just not connected OR if you want it "connected"....get it 3D printed so its hollow. Have the terminals connected to their post and just run a wire underneath via the hollow section :D

Spotted this. Says Test - Gemini....not sure what that is or may be, could be a road test on TD Gypsy? TD Van? TE Van? NFI. May be something that interests you :D
