elky's jambo gem mk2

Post by elky »

well here is some pics of the next stage.....hopefully 13's eventually
Image

It is a TG sedan, painted black with the old drag gems black door handles, pretty much everything on the car externally will be black except for the grille and wheels, the rear bar was brand new when fitted (car has not been driven since paintjob) but will be coming off (it is for sale!) Brand new aftermarket headlights but the drivers side will be replaced with my induction light
Image

I have fitted genuine ZZ/R tailights (all four globes light up when lights are on) and garnish
Image

engine bay is a big step up on the old drag gem, so i am gettin the extractors ceramic chromed, and will be repainting some bits on the engine, battery is in the boot, wiring hidden and engine bay smoothed of all bits not needed

stay tuned.....

the mk1's g200 dohc, it is going in as is for now so i can do some tnt's to compare, the the 4.3 hilux diff will join it, then i will get some custom cams ground and rejet the dellorto's or goto 45's not sure

20 years ago all fast gems were n/a and turbo's were rare, now it is the other way around and i like nothing more than to beat an 8 or turbo sans nitrous or boost

I like the way you think, that's why I shoehorned a straight 6 into my TG :)
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!!

Are those Dellorto's only 40's Elky. I thought they were 45's!

You can get up to 37mm chokes for 40's but they don't work as well. The tipping point is 34mm chokes which work well in either the 40 of a 45 carbie. Above that size 45's a supposed to work better.

Been busy working on the gem, gettin thru the list, been slow work as all this rain made it hard to paint brackets and the dash due to moisture
Image
mounted the remote brake setup, on the previous gem i had to open up the hole in the firewall for the master to go thru, but on this one the hole was bigger, so another small difference in factory pressings it seems. I used TE hardlines for all this and rebent them a little to meet up with the prop valve

Image
pretty excited to get the extractors back today, they were ceramic chromed at thermal edge coatings, before i sent them off i made up a little "gemwreck" badge to hide a small dent, they look pretty awesome! Hopefully the motor will be in on sunday if get the block painted in time

the thermo fan is mounted up, guages in, this time around i have completely taken out the wiper setup linkage and all, this one should be a little lighter than the white gem hopefully

stay tuned....

Gem in now driveable, got a full exhaust on it so I can run it in without alerting the neighbourhood! Got to fit central locking to one door or two due to the locks being deleted, then remaking the induction pipe and lowering the front heaps
