Javi's Drift Gemini
Re: Javi's Drift Gemini
Because this turbo was working fine and spooling at around 2.5-2.8k before it got stupid hot at Archerfield. I'm trying to avoid buying more exxy things for the time being, as I'm still very much a privateer effort, on an apprentice budget no less!

Re: Javi's Drift Gemini
Fair enough - the problem with the cheap turbos is exacty as you describe though - lack of durability in high stress. Not to mention s%*tty old school aero and design
If you can find any way to stretch the budget, grab one of these :
Holset Hx35
Borgwarner s256
Kinugawa / Kamak td06-sl2
Even a second hand gt3076 would be better than what you have at the moment for your intended purpose as a drift car.
Just my honest advice and opinions man

Those kinugawa things don't look half bad man.
I was tempted to get one for my falcon over a rebuild.

Bang for buck, the kinugawa turbos are awesome
Honestly - and I can't emphasise this enough - I would rather run n/a than a s*#t turbo
Here's a bargain turbo perfect for your needs:

Re: Javi's Drift Gemini
That's actually exactly the turbo I want to run, but for now I have a coupe that's in the build that's taking budget priority because it's taking up space at work. I'm hoping to secure myself a sponsorship that can help me to purchase a new turbo soon-ish, but for now I'm just going to have to soldier on with the ebay stuff.DR_GEM wrote:Bang for buck, the kinugawa turbos are awesome

I haven't actually had a problem with the ebay turbos, it's the (external) wastegate that's giving me headaches at this point. Next step will probably be to fab my own manifold and integrate the WG into that properly, rather than running a ghetto gate setup like mine is currently.

MORE SKIDS.
Car is feeling pretty good now, got it boosting less lazily, just gotta turn it up now.
First thing's first though, it will need a new (read: bigger) fuel pump to keep up with the demand from higher boost levels.

Yeah! It turns out the base timing was (somehow) more retarded than it was meant to be, so that's why it ran like a bag of dicks.F3ARED wrote:That sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more responsive now
I has a new cam in it now, and a couple of tweaks to the tune. Feels waayy better to drive.
Just turned the boost up to 11, so it's time for a bit of testing and then some skids! It's a little lazier than I'd like, but for now it'll do.

Re: Javi's Drift Gemini
third gear limiter bashing skids she'd be putting out some smoke at that wheel speed I bet!

Re: Javi's Drift Gemini
Yeah she loves 3rd gear limiter! Probably going to port the head a bit and stick it back on the dyno to see what sort of power I can make on 11psi, see if I can't eek out 4th gear.Holden202T wrote:third gear limiter bashing skids she'd be putting out some smoke at that wheel speed I bet!
Currently trying to figure out what I need to do to do closed loop boost control with the delco. It seems possible, but I may need a SSR to do it...
