Why do you think they only do runs of a certain amount for obscure ones. You can contact the factories direct if you have an order for at least a certain amount and they will do them for you. Very few places make things themselves these days that's why you pay through the nose for par rods etcjimmymeik89 wrote:moley wrote:if you research the factories I reckon they would come out of the same chinese producer mate...
I hope not. Ive just bought some spool rods but they do look very similar.
Coupe rebuild number 6..

Thomas4parts don't do the torque tube stuff anymore
They use Trent now I've got his details. He does the rubbers and the sleeveing them

Re: jimmymeik89s EFI Turbo TX to be..
OK.. so thought i should update this..
The gem has kinda been pushed aside in the last 4-6 months as ive bought a new daily and went on holidays and other randomness of life.
turns out the forged pistons i bought didnt fit the virgin bore of the g180 i had.. so i was a bit demotivated trying to figure out my next step.
in the past couple of weeks i have dropped off the original G161z that i had built last year back to the builder to have new cast pistons and rings back in. MLS head gasket and ARP head studs done too.
also turns out that piston number 2 in the old motor was cracked in 4 places..
new plan..
- Have G161z rebuilt (Nearly done)
- Stock motor that i smashed boost through until it died has now been removed
- Clean the gem inside out
- Bosch 044 install and tidy up boot setup
- trailer/tow the gem to tuner shop where all the engine install, ECU, Turbo, Injection stuff, turbo, metal fab work will be done
Im hoping to get the gem to the tuners within the next couple of weeks. the reason i am using the g161 is because i wanted all the injection stuff done this year so i can drive it this summer, and then once all that is done i can restart building the G180 and swap it out and have it retuned.
I JUST WANT TO DRIVE IT AGAIN!

I know this pain all to well.jimmymeik89 wrote:I JUST WANT TO DRIVE IT AGAIN!
Shame to hear the pistons don't fit.
They an oversized for something? Not worth boring the 161 to suit them?
Still plenty of time to get it to the nationals

Re: jimmymeik89s EFI Turbo TX to be..
The g161 is bored to 84mm and the g180 was 84mm the forgies were 83.84mm so they were too small. But this rebuild has cost me f*#k all. About $800
Cant wait to be boosting again.
