I was similarly stumped with an old FJ 40 cruiser some years back. Turned out it was a combination of spark plugs (Champion plugs - crap from brand new) and spark crook plug leads.

Lok, what colour are the plugs on the cylinders that are missing, immediately after theyve been missing? We just had massive dramas with mine while i was up in Canberra the other weekend, jonno will tell you - pulled hair out. Had a persistent miss that we couldnt find - wasnt using coolant/oil, comp tested fine* - tried new dizzy, new points, timing, points gap, plugs were new from before i left, fuel filter etc - usual bulls*#t. The strange part was we couldnt isolate a cylinder that was missing. Pulling the plugs revealed they werent wet either which is what you would expect if it was ignition related.

Ended up throwing the carby in the bin and putting another one on. Still ran like s*#t but it fired on all 4 and actually went on WOT again.

N-

*by comp tested fine i mean it was actually f*#cking s*#t given that the engine was warm [115 to 120psi] but all within a PSI or two of each other so no dead cylinder.

Nope , they tested as working , but im guessing the spark was jumping to the side not the electrode. i cleaned and regapped them , made no difference , even tested them out of car.

When i get a free wed or saturday night , i'll run the 1/4 and see what it does.

Nope. I really want it finished and sold asap. Lots of bills atm, plus trying to get driveway ready to lay down some concrete.

Useless update... Bought a bottle of Argon, so will be getting into fixing the gearbox leak in the next week or 2.
