Adams TF SkidBox

Post by Jonno »

So another random cbr build.

We are good at building shitboxes :D

So short run down.

Skid pan just gone Adam doesn't want to take his turbo falcon.

Go through the usual searches. Nothing Nothing Nothing
Either. Yeah bra got one aye 238433$ but sum rust lol
Or. I want $5k and it's worth 2.5

So we figured we'd build one outta parts. Attempted this gunna run out of time. Hmm

f*#k...
Anyway few weeks later some bucket comes up on Facebook locally forsale. Farm car gay paint scheme and mags.
Hmm ok.

Looks at it gives me a call. Nek minnet.

Long story short fixed few things did a clutch or someshit did a 5 speed swap and the block water seal thing on the back of the block (which leaked not long after we put everything together)

Few things fixed here and there. 32/36 weber electronic ignition and a cam. Ran sweet!

Ran it through rego.

Few weeks later some paint and a few sticks into the diff added some homo wheels for skid purposes and here we are.

Image

Ok fast forward to about last week.

After weeks of "Sell me your injection gear"
"sell me this sell me that. Lets do a engine conversion"

Here we have it another 4zheadache...

So in talks to rip my old ecu out of hiding where ever the f*#k it is.

Wire it in cause the factory one is ass and skid.

I'll add pics where I can.

Small update.

Adams gotten the motor in after raiding parts from my old one.

Swapped out clutch and flywheel to my old one so that should be mickey mouse.

Now wired up ECU just need to clean up the excess wiring.

From there, we had no spark. Adam raged I said another day in 4z land and for sure the idiots that pulled it out have banged the timing. "Nup they wouldn't"
Sure enough two teeth out. Crombie fixes that and we have spark.

Now the troubling bit.

It doesn't seem to want to fire. I've got to check for injector pulse this weekend. The injectors are getting power but whether they are actually firing is another question.

So need to check that, IF that's the problem.

Any ideas?

4Z powered TF skidder? That sounds familiar.

You should be able to smell whether the injectors are firing or not. Failing that, you can always put something flammable down it.

Yeha wasn't my pick but I had all the stuff and he found a cheap motor.

I'll check on the weekend. We've got it going on areostart and that seemed to kick it along.
But with nothing attached was loud and I wanted at least exhaust on.

It's been ghetto wired with the TPS as well, the computer used to be wired up for a Falcon TPS since switched it to a rodeo one. Took a bit but we managed to get (I think) the right wires in the right spot.
Only drama is when we tap the throttle it's thinking it's at 99%. Needs calibration I hope.

VLT outta my parts bin which was the same one I used in my Gemini. It's definitely pumping.
I want to make sure the lines cleared out before we go any further so I'll get him to pump a litre through the lines just to there's nothing blocking the lines as well.

Similar to what mine was. The rodeo 'sump mod' is horrendous but works.
Basically uses flipped Gemi mounts on 10mm spacers.
Mashed the firewall and it's in. Arguments on heaterbox continues but I'm confident that'll eventually disappear.

And whats feeding the VLT pump?

Bashed firewall because using dizzy cap right? Take a pic for me, i need to work out how close the top of the dizzy with no lid will come to that lip. Still cant work out why you need 10mm spacers tho

Needed the clearance for the dizzy in general. The wires would foul up on it.

I'll get pics on the weekend. Without mods it's hard up on it. I remember from mine.

Update time.

So ready for the lols.

This weekend proved 'interesting' to say the least. Alot of what the f&*ks have been said. Alot of rage and alot getting s*#t fixed.

Soooo many things are coming to light now that we are getting closer and closer to having this thing running, anyway before I get to that I'll start Friday night.

Get phone call. The rail is primed properly and should be right to go few other little things cool.

In typical Adam style impatient as he is gives it a crank. Still not starting... Here's the clincher. Oddly breathing through the thermostat housing? What the f*#k #1.

Any further problems? "nup f*#k it I'm going inside, I reckon it's the headgasket"

Really need to make sure that timing is spot on man might just be 180 out something dumb and it's just thrown s*#t out the outlet.

"There's compression coming out it man"

Get up in the AM go get a few things for the falcon. Half way across town and I get a call.

"So the head gasket isn't f*#cked."
Righto. That's good right? Wrong. Adam was told this was a running motor and drove before the removal. Well...

Whoever had the genius idea with this old nugget pulled it out and either the thing had a blown head gasket or something was f*#cked.

The head
Was not
Bolted down.
What the f*#k #2.

I dunno who the f*#k sells a motor with the head half off and 'yeah yeah bro it works'...

Annnyyywaaayyy skimping the dodgeycuntness that we fixed it. Head prepped new gasket TORQUED down properly and all the cam timing done.

Crank Crank Crank nothing.
f*#k yeah fair enough.

The dizzy clip keeps falling off.

Crank Crank pop.
Hmmm
Crank Crank (bit on the TPS/Throttle) and guess f*#cking what.

Pop
lol

It eventually fired and sorta idled.

More fine tuning and me on the keys we might be getting somewhere.

wtf #3 was his recent announcement that him and his missus are expecting!

Anyway more to come. We've discovered I think number 3 injector is clogged.

Try putting the right kind of TPS on it and you'll have a better time ;)
