well for uni i had to design a dragster, with a few restrictions.

mousetrap powered, we were given the s%*tty bunning $1.20 mousetraps and had to make something to race 5m in the shortest possible time. and no you cant use rat traps hahah.

well i won with a time of 1.66 secs, second was 2.1secs done by my mate.

here are some pics of it, the final design didnt have the wide tyres or spoiler as they were no benifit, i really just built it for show.

the frame is carbon fibre and it has ball bearings on the rear axel from a router bit. it weighs a total of 67.2grams. the rear wheels are spray can caps wrapped in rubber bands. the caltilever setup on the mouse trap i designed to maximise the potential of the mousetraps pull, to create a linear pull.
one of the rules was the drive axel must be of a uniform size, so there was to be no variable gearing systems. but not for me i found a way around it using a strap insted of the standard string system. winding onto itself created a higher gearing for the acceleration automatically changing gears until the finish.

this was the final design a bit neater and lighter. insted of the strap idea i just wound a flatterned string onto itself as it ran better than the strap.
