If the handbrake causes shuddering, fix it, start with checking for bush play! You just can't have a drift car without a handbrake. There's only so much flicks and shiftlocks can do for you, and if you're not sideways well before the corner you'll never get anywhere in a comp!

Car looks nice, wish I had an early model, although if I did I'd keep the kit either subtle, or Jap style!

Sounds like your engines are both pretty mean, I'm investigating options for mine at the moment, I might have the chance to buy a C1T out of a well and truly stuffed Piazza (minus the guilt factor, since I love Piazzas), failing that I'll be chasing either a CA, E1, or perhaps even turbo the G180Z, although that's not high on my priority list. The 180 in there is real nice for what it is, but it's still, at the end of the day, a 1.8L SOHC that will need a lot of work and money to go fast, so I may as well put it aside for a street car/daily/etc and spend my pennies better elsewhere.

well those g180 are pretty sick everyone uses them for drags so they must be good. keep with it man it doesn't matter what you place man its something different. luke fink of all people wanted to drift my gemmy up here when he was up with powercruise last year. i declined though as one of the car he had driven that weekend popped when he was driving and the bloke had to pay for it with his own cash.

Haha that's awesome man, Luke Fink's a great drifter, good to hear he likes the Gems.

Look out for me at Stadium Drift at Tailem on the 28th of August! Got my confirmation letter in the mail the other day! My first comp, I'm there in the "street" class, number 62. Of course it's not a street car, but as it is I'm still expecting to be way overclassed power wise. Will be great fun, I've never done tandems before, hopefully I don't kill anyone hahahaha....

Can't wait. Also, I just bought a new engine for the track car. It won't be ready for a long time, since it's got two spun rod bearings and needs a turbo... But when it does go in, you'll all know. Got it from the wreckers, and has a C in the engine number. Glad I'm sticking with my guns and staying Isuzu. Stick it to the Nissans! :D

I know hey! No bonnet's just the simplest, easiest, most obvious weight reduction from the right end. Plus then people could see my fully hektik yuleh purple rocker cover. Or, more to the point, I could fix the thing without pulling my dodgy bonnet release cable hahaha...

And Johnno, definitely get out there, it's so damn fun! Especially on a track where you can come in fast and push it hard, around real corners, not like roads which, no matter how remote, you'll always be worried about someone seeing or stuffing up.

no bonnet is purely for over heating while waiting in line up problem.. car doesn't like inhaling exhaust gases from car infront to much... black bonnet holds heat in alot to.. i have another one that i cut some vents in..

if i could figure out how to put pics up i'd make my own thread maybe..

Two weeks til Stadium Drift! Getting real exited now! Although I'll probably be nervous as f*** on my first tandem run in front of the crowd!

So I've done some more work on it.

-Removed the 6x9s and their custom shelf, the thing weighed a ton, like 35mm MDF. Seems it wasn't actually bolted in at all! Just wedged in there with love and gravity
-Took out passenger's seat. The car feels weird now, empty. Needs a cage or something to fill the void. I've got to say it feels a bit... unnatural sitting in it now. But I'm sure I won't notice when I'm out on the track.
-Took the old ACT numberplate off the back lol, it looks a bit odd now, I'm thinking of making up a logo plate in stead, or getting Jap plates (will confuse people who think Geminis really were made by Holden) - opinions?
-Fitted a bigger cam - it's Crow Cams part 782507, "Mild Cam" that I had lying around, 0.425" lift, I suck at reading duration but it says "212 at 0.50, 276 advertised"... Anyway, should give me a bit more power across the whole RPM range! I'd hate to lose any midrange as things are...
-Picked up a pair of Piazza mags with lots of tread, but nice old hard tyres, should be great skidders, fingers crossed..

Also did a whole bunch of little annoying things:
-Removed steering wheel so I could get out the top half of the steering column shroud, which was just wedged in there, not attached to anything
-Raised the idle, it was nice for a streeter but way too low for a track car that has to warm up, charge up the battery on idle, and not stall in a spin!
-Tightened the driver's mirror, the thing was about to fall off hahaha
-Test fitted an unfinished Isuzu badge, I've been working on some but I'm not happy yet... I think chrome is too shiny, given that originals are stainless..

I've also got some gauges organised, although I haven't fitted them yet. Isuzu fuel and temp gauges, and a Sprints style temp gauge. I'm thinking of using the sprints one for oil temp. They're mounted to a factory pod of sorts from another car, and fit almost perfectly in the open glovebox. Might put them there, but I can't decide. Anyway, here's some pics. Oh, and my front yard is a bog.

Hey man you've been busy - your 4 spoke mags look good , IMO maybe bail the bonnet Chrome tho , doesn't suit it unless the bottom of the grille is chrome also . TE bumpers look sweet , but for a track car you should swap to plastic and lose more weight , also your sound deadening on your floors , whack some dry ice and crack that s*#t off , few kilo's there . just some ideas anyway , best of luck and cant wait for the vids. . 8)
