The 10 year coupe build Tas

Post by moley »

I have had this car since i was 15, it has had a few reincarnations, a few engines, a few spray jobs basically the base for me starting to fabricate and nut things out from scratch and make them work.
The car had the whole rear end cut off it about 7 years ago and updated to the latest rear wheel drive shape, i put on the radiator support and all the front end myself but the rear end proved a bit more challenging and a panel beater mate of mine sorted that. I modified some commodore hubs, made some new caliper brackets and got the commodore rear axles shorted and swapped in a commodore diff centre, put on a xc coupe master cylinder, modified the torque tube, put nolathane throughout the car and modified bushes to fit that werent available. Had a set of lovells springs from a hq which strangely enough were the same diameter so they got cut down and went in. The engine is a 2L from an early rodeo with a pretty wild prepollution ported and cc'd big valve head. The engine was running flat tops and 12.5:1 compression when i was a young bloke but suffered from a cracked piston after the distributor advanced a little too far. So i pulled it down dropped in some modified dished pistons with around an 8:1 cr, modded the block, changed to a custom turbo grind cam and adjustable cam gear. Went blow through weber and an sc14 supercharger for a while but now have upgraded the poor fuel system, used the wolf from my old liberty the guy blew up, msd capacitor ignition, modded 4ze1 rodeo manifold, fmic, custom made steam pipe manifold and a td04 to try compound charging. This is where you use a roots blower fed by a turbo, the charge air is compressed twice and is a lot denser than that of just a turbo. I have only done research on this and witnessed kooistra's zetec compound charged escort going past my old house full lock sideways every weekend. it will be interesting to do something different and see how it goes. 10 years i have had it so its about time it ses the road again. Heres some pics, some are old some are new. Cheers Hayden

Started filling the repairs. Picked up some 17x8 as wheels, gave em a coat of gunmetal. Had to put in some longer studs and some 10mm spacers to get em to clear though. Blew out some 20540r17s

Made up new 8mm fuel lines. What a prick of a job with everything bolted in the car. It's done tho, six pack of beer for the line and some cheap eBay benders and about 30 mins. Then I drilled out the fittings in the plate that bolts into the boot area and sweated in some 8mm fittings. I have a bead roller coming from aeroflow to roll groove the pipes of anyone else is interested in doing this upgrade I may sell the tool on as I won't use it again I don't reckon. Il put up some pics later. C guarded the boot area onto my third can and it still needs more. Hopefully he gets it into primer soon so I can put the tank back in its just taking forever to get it dead straight after having to weld so many panels and tryin not to use too much filler

some new pics, the amount of s*#t I have for this car is getting hard to handle, its spilled into my office now, theres pics of the new fuel line setup, the retrimmed seats which were done for an absolute bargain, bit of the panel work slowly progressing, lift pump setup ready to go. The new roof lining has arrived and I grabbed another turbo muffler to finish off the rest of the exhaust when I get time, welded the throttle cable bracket on and bought bags of bolts once again, I have so much s*#t going on I cant remember what I do with things.

spent a bit of time on the car today, did some welding, ported out all the welded items and the dump pipe etc. c guarded the boot with a shutz gun the brush on stuff is just horrid, the gun is awesome by the way I think I went through 2 cans of the s*#t in 5 min! stripped the seat area and parcel shelf so I can prep and deaden it all. there is some slight surface rust under the seat area so im glad I decided to do it all. set up the rest of the pipework and worked out where I can put the blow off valve (im starting to run out of space!) just need to work the inner guard slightly so the turbo inlet can sneak past the supercharger. I can get the fuel tank back in now so il get it all deadened and try and get it fired. im starting to foam at the mouth. if anyone has any suggestions shoot me a pm and let me know cheers H

SO I'm gunna jump in here and ask.

This is super charged and turbo?

There's a fair amount of pipework going here there and everywhere.

Am genuinely interested in the build
