The Zed
Re: The Zed
Yea, he has spent hours trying to get mine straight, there's about 3 mm of filler around the back of mine where the roll pan got welded on and the tg back was welded on but it's pretty much unavoidable. Have been using this black rub on stuff like chalk rather than tracer it's quicker and easier to rub off and see your highs and lows. Not sure what it's called though something x

Re: The Zed
Well I got the Engine on Friday night and pulled it down. Very disappointed. It is rooted.
As you can see in the pics water got into cylinder 1 and 7 whilst the engine has been sitting around.
It was supposed to have been covered up but obviousely at some stage it has been out in the weather.
Anyway Good news is My uncle will probably help cover the cost of getting it sleeved or maybe sourcing another Block.
The Machinist we are using says he has a spare turbo pattern block so if it's the right price I might get that.
I'll have a better idea later this week when the engine is dropped off to him.

Re: The Zed
Just heard back from the engine builder. It's going to cost too much to fix. Needs 2 sleeves and crank grind, plus one of the head is cracked.
back to the drawing board!
I'm thinking now of just trying to find a complete running injected 5L setup from a VP-VR commodore and slip that in, maybe with a cam and exhaust

Re: The Zed
That would be the go, do you have auctions where you are? It may be easier to buy a whole vt ss that's been hit in the back then you have the lot?

Re: The Zed

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!!
Re: The Zed
If it's a true vs clubby engine it would be 4 bolt mains? Worth a few skins

Re: The Zed
yeah one of my mates said something about that the ohter day, only the 225kw motor or something ?

Re: The Zed
I'm not sure, I'll have the sump off it soon so we'll see.
I think the 185 isn't very special, basically you could get it as a option in anything exec, berlina etc...from a VR onwards. Then there's the 195 and the 215 and 225, with the GTS model having a stroker option too.
I started doing a bit of investigating based on the engine prefix, VU, which basically just means its a VR or VS model V8, nothing really confirms it as the 185 even, only way to know for sure is to ring GM. I can't really be stuffed doing that as I dont really care! As long as it goes nice I'm happy...

Re: The Zed
i think the 185 only had different headers and a tune, other than that the same motor as the taxi versions!

Re: The Zed
Like the interceptor block that's in the Tirana downstairs, it's a black 308 but the prefix is a 304 engine number. Some of holdens numbers are very confusing
