Re: The Zed
Working on the Engine swap at the moment, taking a break from bodywork!
Cleaned up the Gilmar drive
Painted the Block and fitted the HZ sump
Also did the headers in hi temp paint
Engine coming out:
I'm cleaning the whole front end at the moment and I might paint the firewall, it is really clean already but I think it might look funny if I paint the inner guards and the firewall paint still looks a bit old.
that's all for the moment

Re: The Zed
yeah paint it all
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!!
Re: The Zed
Painted the firewall quickly, didn't go overboard, just scuffed it up with some 800grit sandpaper, prepsol wipe then sprayed in Jet Black 2k. I left the brake booster and just painted it where it is, but I pulled the heater shroud out and the wiper moter, gave them some love too...
I pressure washed the chassis rails and gave them a quick scuff up with the wire wheel then just squirted them in black enamel. you can see I haven't bothered with the suspension yet I kinda just sprayed around it. That will all be coming off for some tlc later...
sat the engine in place but I still need to sort out the trans cross member. should have that sorted soon.

Re: The Zed
yeah they need to be purple like the tappet covers!

Re: The Zed
Yeh they will most likely go the same colour as the car. when I decide what colour that is!
Re: The Zed
Got the engine sat in there...looks good.
Also been playing around with the trans crossmember.
I was thinking of just getting a CRS unit but when I had a bit of a look at the old trimatic one i got crazy ideas:
Looks like a bought one!!
I know welding a crossmember is frowned upon by engineers/RWC mechs but its cheap (had metal sitting around) and will look like a factory unit so nobody will notice hopefully.
Its 3mm plate so its damn strong, probably stronger than it was before!!

Re: The Zed
It's the trans crossmember/mount ,,,202Gem wrote:i'm not sure why you had to modify the corssmember ?
Re: The Zed
Because T700 transmissions are slightly different to the original trmatic/t350/t400 options for that model... the T700 is a bit longer and sits about an inch lower. The actual rubber mount is the same so the bolt holes will be the same. essentially all I've done is stretched the crossmember so allows more room for the bigger/longer tranny.
Re: The Zed
Good too because if you want to go to a t series manual it will bolt straight in
Coupe rebuild number 6..
