FX Holden Race Car Project
So begins another project!
the plan is to fit the turbo 202, gearbox, fuel system and wiring that was in my TG Gemini into an FX Holden. Also build to comply to ANDRA Super Sedan specs, i.e. roll cage, and other safety requirement, which means I can run down to 9.00 1/4 mile
Got the car in my shed today and the gemini is out at my brothers place now (its new owner).
also started fitting the hoppers stoppers big brakes I have so then I could mount the front runners and see how they fit offset wise!
and dummied up a commodore axle in the original diff housing to see how it all fitted, will need the diff to be a bit wider to get the rim centred in the guard a bit better then I should be able to run a 10 inch slick no worries (current tyre is 8 inch)
once I work out that side of things i'll make a start on cutting down a commodore diff for it....
also in the debating stage of cutting into the firewall to recess the motor in a few inches, basically need to do it to fit everything, it will be better for weight distribution, and so the question is how far, I want to go back as far as I can as then I can fit decent radiator and thermos fans etc ...
anyways lots of fun to be had, but so far enjoying the change of scenery in the shed

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
very much the same way I did it with the Gemini Jonno
So today I shortened a commodore diff, its not quite done, but its roughly dummied up to see where everything sits!

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
didn't get a lot of time, but started sussing out some chassis strengthening rails
they slot into the spring mounts, and they will be welded together once finished and will be stitched along the floor and to the front cross brace.

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
made some good progress on the weekend on chassis rails and then getting the motor trial fitted .. still reckon it needs to go back a bit, but I am going to get a radiator and thermo fans then see whats needed before I go too much further!
There is almost 100mm clearance here, but with radiator and fans I think I might need near on 150mm, so hense waiting till I can mock them up.

Re: FX Holden Race Car Project
just for "reference" the join in the middle of the transmission case is about where the original tunnel height used to come to! and that's without taking into account the 50mm main support rail across the floor under it!
So much stuff going around in my head, gets me super keen to get out there and sus out whats what so at least then i can buy more bits or plan more etc for the next steps, its a bit of waiting game like that.
i spent alot of the early sunday arvo trimming chassis rails to fit nicely and then mounted them up with some tack welds, then added some bracing to the floor (which also worked as a temp gearbox support) before i started cutting it all up.
The hole quickly got bigger as i tried to shoe horn it in
theres no doubt the turbo is going to need to be relocated and probably have to send the dump pipe out the inner guard above the front wheel, but aside from that its not looking too bad.
Last night i measured the rails and front area so this morning i have ordered an alloy radiator and some thermos, so once i get them i'll be able to dummy it up to see if there is any more requirement to move the motor back at all.
Its also going to 100% need rack and pinion steering conversion, but that was already planned anyways, more so for better steering, but will give me oil pump clearance too.
