Re: 253 Wagon Engine conversion "The Anchor"
Have done all this welding more than 10 times in my head.. FINALLY managed motivation to get it done
Dropped steering rack tacked into place for fitment checking
Engine mounts, need cleaning up and 2 x cross supports welded onto them.

Re: 253 Wagon Engine conversion "The Anchor"
Notched the support and fitted replacement metal
Rack welded and chassis notch welded
Brake booster mount shortened and bought closer to firewall, this may be shifted over closer to the shock tower once engine is in for extractor clearance

Re: 253 Wagon Engine conversion "The Anchor"
So it turns out the flexplate is from a 400 chev, since i bought a hi torque reduction drive starter motor and nothing lines up correctly, including flexplate to crankshaft
So have now purchased the correct flexplate, so hopefully this week i'll have it all together and into engine bay to see how much room i have to play with for extractors

Re: 253 Wagon Engine conversion "The Anchor"
Got over my little spat of issues and decided to move onto something else for a bit.
Cut a hole in the firewall, revered the mounting holes, bashed the inner guard a lot, and made the short mount brake booster fit with the engine installed.

Given myself till end december to have it drivableJonno wrote:So you're gunna finish it now?
Pulled down motor to fit new cam, intake and carby. Bought a new Dizzy, but i dont think it'll fit without removing blower motor cover and part of the plastic fan motor cover
And Luckily i did remove intake for a better one.. Found this little surprise in Cyl 1 intake.

Re: 253 Wagon Engine conversion "The Anchor"
Got wrong bolts, they were too long. Have since sorted shorter ones, also got battery + and - cables made up. New gearset should be here hopefully today, so saturday can be spent assembling motor with new gaskets etc ready to drop in. Have bought another set of custom made extractors from a speedway car to chop up and try make fit into the engine bay.
Deadline now is end of year to have this thing driving and mod plated.

Re: 253 Wagon Engine conversion "The Anchor"
You've made mention timing gear and straight cut gear.
Are you talking about the gearbox gears or a singular timing gear?

Re: 253 Wagon Engine conversion "The Anchor"
Timing gears came, have fitted them and modded timing case. Also have cut up 2 x sets of extractors to "try" make manifolds that will fit.
Also have a 3 core radiator ( needs reconditioning ) that should do the job of cooling quite well.. Looks to be enough clearance currently with everything just thrown into the engine bay.
