C1 head, intake & cam are all about as bad as each other. Fit a late e1 head with the closed chamber, flat top pistons, e1 intake manifold, reground cam and reap the rewards!

Love it
That's awesome Vivo
Nice cam setup there and relatively low static comp which is good
Which fuel?

Re: Ozgemini Dyno Results Thread
Cheeers blokes, The big cam and low comp is actually working backwards, my dynamic compression would be as low as 7:1 from what i have read. An increase upto 13:1 would yeild an easy 15% gain through the entire rpm range with the same bolt ons.
Its on 98, timing is locked at 40degrees.
Im getting a real fuel pump, bigger extractors and a few hours of dyno tuning before matsuri in october, i will upload the new graph then for comparison.

Re: Ozgemini Dyno Results Thread
My daily driver tc sedan
Has a tired g161z bottom end, around 8.3:1 comp.
Port dags removed, very small tighe turbo cam, valve springs running 15psi.
Ended up making 192hp or something once i leaned the fuel out, Afterwards i was told i strapped the car down too tight and it would have gone well over 200 ( I hired the dyno )

Good work man, is that standard pistons and a graphite gasket?

Re: Ozgemini Dyno Results Thread
Yes completely standard g161 cast pistons and a standard type head gasket, sprayed with hylomar. Im happy with how it is holding up.
I have had it as high as 19psi for a few weeks

Re: Ozgemini Dyno Results Thread
Tempts me to keep the engine in my car and try it on the 30 pound. A bloke who didnt seem like a time waster had a look tonight and seemed keen so hopefully he takes it and i can finish my engine. Have a td06 20g on the way and they were starting the head today so things should happen

Re: Ozgemini Dyno Results Thread
The standard pistons would handle 30psi, as long as you avoid detonation completely. Not sure if the head will stay planted without head studs though.
Should have my smaller turbo rear housing soon for my setup which will help it make boost easier, Its now running on e85 but injectors are approaching 80% duty cycle, if all goes well i will put 25psi into it and see what happens.
Got any driving videos of your setup?

Probably should take this to another thread / discussion, but a few thingsvivoacer wrote:The standard pistons would handle 30psi, as long as you avoid detonation completely. Not sure if the head will stay planted without head studs though.

Well done firstly on your outcome.
Secondly, I would be more concerned with piston to wall and bearing clearances with 30psi on a standard g series bottom end. Its not that the pistons themselves won't "handle" the boost - like you said so long as there's no knock then they should be ok. Piston strength itself only really functions to withstand knock or remain contained (including various bits of the piston like ringlands or the piston pin), so a stock piston can be "strong" enough per se.
But the standard tolerances in a g161 won't lend themselves to the very high cylinder pressures you will see with big boost. I'd be more concerned about a piston grabbing the wall or a bearing doing the same to the crank / journal.
Keeping the head down at those boost levels is also a challenge. Thus a proper hg setup and studs would be needed to hold it all together.
I wish i had something cool and witty in my signature
Re: Ozgemini Dyno Results Thread
Very good points to consider! although as long as the oil pressure is good i dont think there would be an issue with spinning a big end, after all the 52mm journal is as large/larger than some of the top engines taking big boost! But the standard tolerances in a g161 won't lend themselves to the very high cylinder pressures you will see with big boost. I'd be more concerned about a piston grabbing the wall or a bearing doing the same to the crank / journal.
I guess we will find out how much a completely stock g161 can handle, just before my forged motor is ready to go in i will turn this one right up. Wont make good power with this head or cam but it wont matter.
