Asking The Same Question 50,000 times

Post by Jonno »

Hello esteemed members and further forum browsers.

Generally I'm a fairly tolerant man, you know ask a question here about something that's been answered before, we are all guilty of it.

But fk me am I sick of seeing this.

"What do I need to do for a V6 conversion?"

"V6 Conversions, whos done it?"

"Can a V6 fit in a Gemini"

FFFFFF This question comes up at least 15times a month.

It really IS NOT that hard to click the search button and have a look.

Yes It can be done.

Yes People have done it

Yes It fits.

Yes it is a waste of a Gemini.

Omfg believe it or not I used this thing called google. It's a relatively useful search engine and I've found this

http://www.rodshop.com.au/holden/gemini.htm

This is the first of about 10pages of results.
(Beware half of them are this f*#cking question being asked)

Quick search in the CONVERSION Gallery and I've found this

viewtopic.php?t=9714&highlight=gemini+conversion

If you look in the conversion gallery BEFORE asking these questions you might have a better insight into what needs to go on with an engine conversion.

Engine Conversions ARE:
Costly
A pain
Keep your car off the road for ages.
Reliability is compromised
Not necessarily legal.

This principal can be applied to all engine conversions
SR20
FJ20
4z
GSeries
V8
Rotary etc.

viewforum.php?f=46

I hope this has helps people before they jump into this section and ask these questions about engine conversions

Kind Regards,
Jonno

Maybe a sticky in the noobs section ( the only sticky ) , with title "Hi , welcome , handy forum tips inside"

Then have links to V6 conversions , SR20 conversions etc etc etc etc.

I think we just need to be more blunt when these threads come up. People (myself included) waste our time humouring them, even in the slightest.

From now on, when I see these sorts of threads in Gemini Chat, I'll link them to this thread, then I say lock or delete the thread, if they have any problems they can post in the noobs playground.

I thought I'd chuck this in this Sticky so people can read the tread instead of asking.

The threads on Carbie Turbo Vs EFI Turbo. This is seems to be a non-bulls*#t and legit responses from people who have done these conversions before.
And not the usual "I've done turbo. Mine runs 44000020203hp and 7second passes but I wont contribute any useful information cause I don't actually know much about the topic"

Enjoy!

FYI General consensus, V6 Geminis in all states

UN-Engineerable. This means It CANNOT be engineered.

Unless it's engineered as a Individually Constructed Vehicle which = BIG $$$$$$$$

Hope this assists.

For this one you need to check the flywheel size.

Unfortunately ordering a G161Z clutch kit for a G200 wont work so you need to make sure it's the right one.

(Gearbox is irrelevant)

G200 Flywheel = purchase G200 Clutch
G161 Flywheel = purhcase G161 Clutch
4ze1 Flywheel = purhcase 4ze1 clutch ect etc etc etcet

If anyone wants to put the dimensions of the G200 clutch vs G161 clutch I'm sure this will benefit everyone :)

Also please keep questions like this to the Noobs Playground located here: viewforum.php?f=48

We'd need more info as to how "hard" you think it'll be.

Can you weld?
Have you done a conversion before?
How much do you plan on doing yourself?
How much do you want a shop to do?
How much power/reliability do you want?
How much do you want to spend?
Are you prepared to double that figure when you realise how much it REALLY costs?

I am detecting a slight stench of elitism in this discussion. My view is that users of the Noob section should be allowed to ask the dumbest of dum - ass questiosns as often as they like without sanction.

If you want to keep gemini a level akin to theology - don't trawl the Noob section. If you can't provide a polite and helpful answer don't reply.

There are some forums where if you slate a submitter to score points in an imaginary ego game - you are off. There is even one bicycle site that restricts your access if you can't put together a coherent sentence. (that would wipe out any members from the NSW state of origin team if applied here).

I think you've come off with the wrong impression man.

I am sick of the same question asked all the time hence why I made this thread.

I've been slowly putting useful information into it links etc.

Besides when I made this thread 3 or 4 new posts were in relation to v6 conversions in THIS section not noobs play ground.

I hope this clarifies this ;)
