Custom inlet manifolds
Custom inlet manifolds
Obviously this has been asked before in some way shape of form but...
I want to get rid of the standard runners 4z type and build a custom manifold. Im blown and turbo and not looking for spastic power so i ask the question because of the distributor being so high is it ok to go with the downward angle like on a few manifolds i have spotted or do people run into issues with the bolt up?
Im designing one on paper and using pvc pipe cut up but it seems like the downward angle is quite sharp. Experience or pics would be great if anyone would like to share. Also running primary injectors and secondaries for water meth injection.

Will have flow figures in the next few weeks of my modified rodeo bottom half runnersmoley wrote:Or are the rodeo runners ok and should i just run with that.
I'm told they flow ok but who knows.
I wish i had something cool and witty in my signature
Re: Custom inlet manifolds
Yea i dont really know i think the runners are only 38 mm at the plenum end which i think is gonna be too small anyway

Imageshack going down has really killed this page hey? Everyones avatar pics are missing
As far as the manifold goes if you aren't chasing huge power just use the rodeo manifold OR the lower half with a forward facing plenum

Hey Moley,
Slightly OT but if your keen send me a pm. I have a ported [on plenum end] Rodeo lower inlet manifold thats also HPC coated. Happy to take measurements and or sell cheap if you want it.

Re: Custom inlet manifolds
Yeah I've been meaning to move my avatar for a few years and it still hasn't happened!
What sort of numbers are you chasing? My 4ZE1T has stock runners with an early Gemracing style plenum which seems to be a slightly flattened out ~6" mild steel pipe with ends whacked on it and a Falcon throttle body, pretty simple stuff, no bellmouths, tapers or really any porting of the hard edges in there and it doesn't seem to be an issue boosted (yet). Made around 252rwkw and around 848Nm on 25psi with a serious misfire upward of 5500rpm. To give you an idea of what we were up against, the 'gate springs were set for 7psi, and we were hitting 25psi by the time it started blowing the spark out and missing. Not fun, but that's another story and another few months work ahead of me... but the point is that despite all of that, it still made stomper power. That's with a GTX3071R and only a 0.64 rear on 98RON. Plenty more in it once we can actually do things in the top end.
I had originally wanted to make a merge collector or at least tuned length/bellmouth inlet, but lacking a TIG and skills I just couldn't justify $1100 on something that would maybe make me a few extra killawasps on top of an already healthy figure. I might make one up one day when I have the time and a spool gun.
