rockers and shafts

Post by djbrooksy05 »

Hi lads and ladies
What's everyone do with rockers and shafts when getting heads rebuilt?

I have a few sets here and all look s#@t, can they be brought new still?

Is there a wear limit on them? How are they measured?

What are my options, seems backwards to put new valves and guides in a head then strap some old s%*tty looking rockers and shafts to it

Mix and match really; new ones dont exist as far as im aware. You are basically looking for a set of shafts that arent too worn. Rockers you can clean up the pad where it contacts the cam but i suspect there shouldnt be too much wear in that area anyway. Any wear gets taken out by valve adjustment.

Mix and match is what I have started to do.
I have a good set of shafts. but the contact face for the rockers have been messed with and only half the face makes contact.

I have a few different sets of rockers to pick through to find a set that are good. And most are OK as it looks like its the shaft the wears not so much the rockers.
So quick linish of the shafts in the lathe and the best of the worst rockers it is.

I can find new alloy 4z rockers and and a few steel g series ones but no shafts that I can confirm will fit

Guess it depends on how bad the ones you have are, and wether or not its worth getting new ones.

Toby, whats the go with ordering from rockauto? Got a few things i need to source from there....just have no idea how to go about it

Yeah I'm still unsure on if to replace them or not.

As for rock auto. I haven't ordered anything but seems like most add to cart then go through check out process

Rockauto are the same as most sites for buy on line. They are set up for international orders.
The only thing you need to be watchful of is that if you order stuff from multiple stock warehouses the international post cost jump up. In the check out the warehouse sources will be marked "A", "B" "C". On the check out it will tell you if there is extra postage for multiple sites. if you are buying a single line of items, engine, brakes, suspension, etc they are usually from one warehouse and not a problem.

The customer service is really good. If there is a problem they fix it .

If you want to run swivel feet you need steel rocker arms and they need to be modified. That's for a g series though. Usually we just feel the wear between the shaft and rocker arm, it's very obvious if they are worn you will see it on the shafts and can measure the amount of wear between where the arms run and where they don't.
