The Question FINALY answered - VL centers
so i striped out a 10 bolt diff and took it down to a engineer that specialises in diffs and diff conversions.
VL-t center (which is the same as the VN v8 center etc..)
does..............................NOT fit a gemini diff housing. we test fit one there and then, and its about 20mm to wide.. and the bearning housing diameter on the diff is way to small to house the Commodores larger bearings.
so thats that answered once and for all.. which means f*#k f*#k f*#k f*#k f*#k..........
but we *did* brain storm up a very exciting idea to replace the talk tube with a complete diff conversion without havign to go laddar bar or 4 link.. just need some co-operation from BlueTC (carlos please check your PM's)
so the "wheels are in motion", and im very excited and fingers crossed that it all works out

here's my 2 cents...
there is a LSD that fits in a gemmi housing besides early commo (dunno if its the same)
but i think my car had one
hard to find but one of the torana's, can't remember which model (stoive of sheel please clear up?) fits in and works a treat, was talking to stoive and he said SHEEL was telling him about it...
plus you could always go a pizza diff and do the work, (however its a fair bit of work lol) or you could be crazy and chop up like a PF60 and steal it from that...

FFS WOULD YOU PUSSIES STOP WASTING TIME BIG NOTING YOURSELVES ABOUT WHAT WILL & WILL NOT FIT A GEMINI!!!!
If you spend the money you can get ANY diff to fit into a Gemini. Go take any housing to a diff specialist & they will measure up, cut & weld up the bracketry for a gem as well the bracket for a third arm (which incidently I have mentioned before a company makes a full kit for), and redo the axles as well. Hilux, Rodeo, 9 inch, Salisbury, Borg Warner - whatever you want!

Try again Gene!!!Gene FJ20DET wrote:the early torrana, is the same as the early commodore ones, as well as the early holdens such as some wb's hq's etc... ther all the same thing
Torana up until end of LX had Banjo diff, UC Torana then changed to Salisbury. The exception to this was the A9X Torana which also ran the Salisbury diff and was produced with a different rear floor pan (which was subsequently used in all UC) to allow the fitment of the Salisbury. This diff was then used in the early Commodores which then changed over to the Borg Warner. HQ 1-tonners used the Salisbury rear, as for the rest of the HQ's I'm told they also ran Banjo's and were the last ini the Holden lineup to run them.
I'll second that last post.
Except that the Salisbury diffs in the A9X were the BIG Salisbury diffs such as those used in V8 Commodores prior to the Borg warners used in the VL.
Only the competition bred Toranas fitted with the L34 engines used the V8 Salisbury. All the other UC model were fitted with the small Salisbury, same as the Gemini and VB-VK 4 and 6 cylinder models had.
