diesel 5pd

Post by sus-gem »

Hey fellas i got a little TE with the stock g161 which i put a 4spd in.i just got a new clutch put in had it running for the last 2 months. was fine till last week now when the car is running an the clutch is in it wont change easily, you have to force the gears, when the car is off you can select any gear easy. i pressumed i have a dodgy clutch?
anyway im pretty over sitting on 3000rpm while doing 100km so i thought i would upgrade to a 5spd, if im going to have to replace the clutch. i have found a TE diesel gemini with a 5spd in it. Will this box bolt strait up to my donk? is the diesel box in anyway stronger or have better ratios?

Cheers bro :D

Thats normal for most Gems....my old G200 would sit between 3000-3500rpm on the highway at 100-110kms

Have you tried adjusting the clutch cable?

All 4ths are 1:1.
5th are typically 0.855 or 0.782.
(And you will get people that insist the revs change after an engine-only change!)

If the diesel box has a LHS starter, you can swap its bell housing. The DOHC lads like the LHS starter boxes/bells.

Gemini diesel box is a straight bolt in swap. The only thing to watch are the output splines. I have found all diesel boxes to be course spline irrespective of the model they come out of. However, if your car has a fine spline tail shaft and you are fitting a course spline diesel gearbox, don't think you can use the diesel tail shaft. It's a different length and won't be suitable. Diesel tail shafts are painted black, petrol ones are grey. You will need to find a petrol course spline shaft. Diesel shafts have fixed yokes that you can't remove and reinstall without special tools. Petrol yokes use a replaceable uni joint.

i have sold heaps of diesel boxes

they do come in fine spline (tf/tg) but are rare

u will not notice a huge improvement, and it will still rev hard in 5th, the main difference with the diesels is the lower diff ratio

they are supposedly a little bit stronger, dunno tho
