G200w turbo implant

Post by couchy »

I'm building a car for my son.
we've picked up a worked G200w turbo motor. I believe Ex Japan Piaza.

my experience with Gemini engine changes ended 15 years ago and that was carbie sohc blocks.

My questions are;
it needs a computer, i've read as much as i can but need help to clarify things.
Can i run an ECU from another vehicle and where in western Sydney could i get it installed and i believe it would need to be re-mapped.
Is it easier to go after market.

Cost is an issue but my knowledge and ability don't go this far.

There will be more questions soon.

Thanks,

Hi Couchy .
These motors go very well and make 135hp . Roughly double a SOHC .
Parts are scarce but dont let that stop you . We can direct you to some gasket kits etc .

You could see Micks Motorsport in Sydney , he is a tuning Genius and tunes some of the highest hp cars in Australia
He has a soft spot for geminis , starting his business with them .

It wont be cheap full gasket kit is $350 from MDS spares (google it)
Sprint 500 ECU is $1100 + install + tune

You can use cheap Delco ECU of something like a Camira or Pulsar , or a 2nd hand after market unit from another car/ Gemini
that can end up costing the same as new .. will only be cheap if your a wiring whizzkid . Go new

Anyone know if the g200w dizzy's are CAS or Hall effect type?

Reason I ask is I might be able to sell my brand new microtech lt10s (configured for 4ze1 dizzy) to you for a good price.

I paid over $1200 for it a few years ago with upgraded 3 bar internal map sensor and additional auxiliary output. It is still brand spanking and sealed in plastic. Has been sitting in my wardrobe for 3 years.

I am most likely upgrading to haltech ps1000 so this may be for sale.

If if will work with your setup then that woul be your cheapest option

This would be the way to go!
Means I could probably run mine on it to. I might direct some of the twincam guys thisaway.

Ps Mick good move on the PS1000 32984738297298573429857453times better than the LT10s...

Keen to see photos of this engine!
ECUs are something that require a bit of research to choose the best one for you. Unless you're electrically savvy, I'd suggest talking to a tuning shop so they can recommend an ECU they're used to working with and setting up. I'm pretty sure my G180W dizzys are reluctor, but I could be wrong, it's been years.
Don't go too crazy with boost and timing unless it's got forged pistons, if you put a leg out of bed it'd be a hell of a waste!

I'm a bit late to the party, but the Delco '808 with a NVRAM and USB comms board from pcmhacking.net would be pretty good for your setup. I'm running that on my G180Z road car, and 4ZE1-T drift car and they do a whole lot more than most cheap aftermarket ECUs.

I concur that the tuning resolution you get with a Delco or equivalent oem ecu is alot better than most aftermarket ecu's. problem however is tunability and access from a tuner's perspective.

If you're self tuned and willing to invest the time into it then its a great option. However most tuners don't have the software or inclination to tune one of these (due to limited market) and thus makes it nigh on impossible to find a reputable, competent tuner.

Another downside is lack of can communication and functionality over things like launch control / closed loop boost, full time closed loop 02 etc
