Nothing much again has happened. Was brilliant fun. I am keen on going again.

I really need to get into one of these shitboxes so I can get to Geminats. At this stage the only car right to take is the white one and It needs some loving before heading out again.

Talk about giving the fridge's spare motor a freshen up and throwing it in this.
See where it takes us. I am super super super broke.

Challenge 123i53785654ty version 9.

In some vague hope to get no where an judging by my record of swapping engines getting the s*)ts and chucking the 1600 back in we are going to have a crack at something for this.

I need to get something sorted for an upcoming track day and the old 1600 isn't super happy with me since my last outing. I must stress there's nothing wrong but it's down a little on power.
So I searched the shed for bits.

I've still got the majority of the collection of motors. Ahummed and ahhed looked at a couple did nothing. Closed the door.
Anyway. I've pulled some of the old 4z/G200 Turbo gear out.

The decision was made and we will see what happens cause I'm on EXTREME budget.

Enter Amy's Gemini's old flame.

So G200 headwork turbo cam no idea on specs ported and HD valve springs.
Inlet is my old 4z one with a XF Falcon Throttle body on it
Turbo and manifold are the original ones from that motor VLT T3 3" dump pipe.

It needs bearings potentially rings we aren't sure yet.

I had a look and it's still got most of the stuff there I just need to grab some more things.
I.e.
Non standard Fuel rail - Needs to adapt into AN fittings
Probably injectors cause I don't have any.
Top studs for the inlet (they need to be 4z size to clear the manifold)
Some reason 1 exhaust side stud
Some fitting to go from the oil feed line from the block.
Dizzy
Intercooler
Exhaust adapter 3 > 2.5 Inch
Loom
Dizzy which Danman is going to lend me
Clutch

Then the standard things
New coolant hoses.
Oil
Oil filter
Fuel filter
Some form of fuel pump and lift.
Surge tank.

ETA 14th August if not quicker depending on funds.
Ideally I'd love to take this to Geminats boosted but I got too much on our plate money wise.
Will see.

With Geminats scrapped this year nothings happened at all. I've been a sad c*#t and since resorted to working on my VN.

Anyway in between we've made a few videos. No longer for Race Magazine but for our own stupidity.

Feel free to sus:

Liek the page even if you don't care. Having the channel as that ridiculous number I can change it with 100 lieks or something..

Well it's been a hectic few months.

I've been working from home and in my spare time been focusing on my SS rather than any of my Geminis.
Anyway with Summernats now cancelled for January and Halfwaynats (now just gone) coming up I had to work out which Gemini I was comfortable thrashing around Wakefield for a weekend.

Red car has had an issue ever since coming back from there.
Fixed the clutch, fixed a few little things, main issue, you guessed it... Still there...

Righto Bucketship it was.

So for months it's been sidelined. It dropped a lower ball joint in spectacular fashion on a cruise Matt and I were on.

So with 3.5 weeks to a track day (inbetween packing, appointments, work and other s*#t) we thrashed it out and got it done. Well just....

This will be a long post so I'll cut this bit here and post a new bit with the pictures soon.

So at Halfwaynats at Wodonga Victoria last year we had an awesome time. I really pushed the coupe to it's almost limit.
I knew it was not slow for what it was but not quick enough for the big straights.
At Wodonga I think I got to the top of 2nd gear at about 100 and way out of camshaft by then.

Wakefield is a completely different track, waaaayy waaayyy faster and longer.
To give you a comparison, Wodonga we were doing quick laps (fast cars under a minute slower 1-1:10s sorta thing)
Wakefield a race car does a 1:08 and faster slow car is 1:15 and a standard Gemi 1:30 +
The red car did a 1:30 around wakefield with street wheels and tyres, no sway bar and an open diff.
It makes 240HP but cleans up on the straights.

The coupe is 50HP has a decent front sway bar nothing on the rear and a panhard bar.

So working my C grade Maths I figured the coupe would be a better suited car I just needed more go for the back sections to try and keep up with the faster Geminis.

My mystery combo seems to work not too badly for what it is but just won't cut it for Wakefield, well for me anyway.

First things first valve springs needed to be done ASAP. They're soft and aren't really working the way they should.
We discovered this at Wodonga when I got it to 6.5k and wasn't really moving just making sad noises.
With that what's the real point of doing this and having a standard or standard-ish camshaft in it. I want to be able to rev it around the track not 111101010ty rpms but it needs to be sorta competitive around the place. At least to have some fun.
So. Hagen sorted me out a 'cheat' cam.

Anyway the pics will tell the rest.

What seemed like a probable easy solution took us to all sorts of new headfucks.
There's more efficient ways of doing the valves but this seemed like a good idea, Andrew had the tool and we just did it.
Unfortunately one of the valves dropped and we had to pull the head off.
Which probably isn't a bad idea really, It got new gaskets, oil and coolant. So like a standard 4ze1 service I suppose.

Head off and everything got a clean:

Head back on with all the valvesprings done, Elkin took the head and had it properly cleaned and the new cam in.

So we got it running timed and seemed to be pretty happy as it is.

Onto fixing the rest of the broken s*#t.

Starting with the ball joint. My father inlaws workshop has most of the bigger tools so was just a case of lining everything up and getting that done.

While the lower control arm was off I've been investigating brake upgrades.
Phil (GTR33T) sent me some 1990s rotors of some Audi (which I should put in here when I've worked out which ones)
They're listed in the older brake conversions.
Why do a old ass brake conversion Jonno? I don't really need a VT Commodore one. If you've ever actually pick it all up/weighed it. It's pretty dam heavy.

It's designed for a 1.5T car and the Coupe makes 50HP not 300.
My TE has an older brake upgrade on it and it works perfectly at 240HP.

So we messed around for a bit with it.
A mate gave me some VN V8 calipers for it to see if they'd fit. The TE has the same on it and what we think is VRX Magna rotors.
Again another common brake upgrade in the 90s/2000s.

They bolt straight up to the stub axle which is ideal! The only issue seems to be a casting mark thing on the housing itself.
It fouls on the actual rotor.

Here's the calipers:

Checking them out on the mill:

Now I'll continue with this bit later. Why?
I didn't get it finished and we are experimenting with other options for calipers.
I.e. Volvo 4 pot ones I've managed to obtain :D

So onto Halfwaynats

We needed to get that lower ball joint done and I figured I'd chuck a new wheel bearing in seeing as the one that was in there got pulled through the mud (well dirt and s*#t in the driveway)

So while we were dickign around on the mill my father in law and Elkin did some tool searching to guide the press and push the ball joint in.

I found a bar and we made this magic tool :D
balljoint.jpg
balljoint.jpg (124.48 KiB) Viewed 6157 times
Seats just small enough to guide everything into place.

Nek minnet!
Done! (bushes were done last track day)

So we managed to get it all back together in the rain and took it for a test run.
Everything seemed pretty fine. I didn't want to thrash it with a fresh head not so crash hot rear tyres and rain.
I did take it to a Carb specialist for a check over.

Good news was everything was actually pretty sweet!
They did mention that the accelerator pump on the carb had had it so they changed that out for a new one a few other small bits but nothing over the top.
The sad news is that my mystery Loki weber has seen some action. They said it's not stuffed but probably going to rob me of top end.

So morning after I took it to the shops for a drive. I do really really enjoy driving the coupe over the red Gemini.

Anyway 2nd gear rolled into it 4k, 5k, 6k with no struggle at all where it used to fall over so that would indicate that the valve springs are holding up sweet. 6.5 no sweat more jandle and 7k!
I ran out of straight.
Healthy didn't miss a beat and didn't hesitate at all.

We did a few minor race prep mods to it other than the head stuff to.
My mate Brad hooked me up with a bent panhard bar. For years and I don't understand why but the nolethane one I have seem to run out of adjustment. So Brad hooked me up and I fitted it to the coupe.

Picked up a half asleep Josh Black from the airport and coupe-voyed to Goulburn.

Then the shenanigans began!

The Bucketship has spent a bit of time in Elkins shed and we think this will be the perfect time to get it done for this:
