Re: RoverGem , the V8 gemini that is. Sorting out the Issues
Finally , have picked up all the hardware for the disc rear conversion. I'll try get it all sandblasted and painted during the week , and maybe even get the car onto stands and make a start on it ( 1 side at a time so diff oil doesnt go everywhere!!! )

Family requirements has slowed me to an almost stop , but did manage to change the round headlights and grill to TG lights n grill , i dont really think the round TE front suited the yellow colour very well.

Re: RoverGem , the V8 gemini that is. Sorting out the Issues
Facebook visitors welcome! currently there is a rather large discussion about modding a gem to fit a V8. This car was built with the sole intention of keeping it as close to stock as possible so a factory motor and gearbox could be re-installed. Only the X member has been modified ( extra brackets welded on for engine mounts ). Other V8 combo's may require tunnel work or full fabricated engine mounts. I would seriously suggest you question your ability to folow though with all the mods to complete a project like this. Please dont cut up a good shell and realise its too hard and throw it away.

This is probably the only cool v8 gemini in existence.
Would be cooler with EFI and ITBs.

Agreed!
A 4L rover would be a better idea in a TE-TG as the 4L has a lot shorter oil pump/timing cover/harmonic balancer and would fix some of the issues fitting a Rover into a gem. The TX TC and I think TD have too low a kerb weight to fit a 4L in legally under the NCOP. But apparently you can fit the 4L crank and front cover etc etc to the earlier 3.5L block

Re: RoverGem , the V8 gemini that is.
Long time no update.. Well here is one..
I have pulled the motor and box to fix a few oil leaks ( its brittish , i doubt i'll ever stop it leaking ) , and whilst out , im swapping out the big range rover converter with the smaller BMW converter the box originally had.

Re: RoverGem , the V8 gemini that is.
generally smaller converters are associated with higher stall speeds, a common conversion for a trimatic on a Holden 6 was to get a gemini converter which lifted the stall speed a bit for next to nothing ..... having said that its anyones guess how much difference it will make, but even a few hundred RPM higher stall could be all it needs to launch 200% better.
the other thing too, if that V8 converter is built for a 2000kg car, its going to mean it will stall lower in a lighter car, whereas the BMW unit will more than likely be designed for a car that is closer to the gemini's weight than the rovers ? time will tell.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!!

Overheating will always be an issue going up big hills.. that was the killer.. I'll be putting a bleeder in the top rad tank to try stop the air pocket it has.F3ARED wrote:Same. Mine have always had 3 pedalsmoley wrote:For those who dont know what difference does the small converter make?

Finally the bay has some colour and the engine/box is being put back in. New smaller converter is on motor with the right spacing.
