clunk coming through steering wheel when turning

Helloooo

under load when the car is turning right after a half turn of the wheel i get a clunk that comes through the steering wheel then the wheel continues to turn.

it feels as though the steering column is hitting something as it goes around?

ideas please :)

drive at 3,000rpm (under load is better than coasting)
turn ignition to accessories
pump throttle twice
turn ignition back to on

whole process shouldn't take longer than 2 seconds.

careful, your exhuast might blow up and don't do it in a EFI / turbo car :)
