Hi All,
Its been a while my coupe has been garage bound for years now. only getting out 3-4 times per year.
some questions first off.
1. Does anyone have a good mechanic they could recommend to do work on my coupe, QLD Gold Coast.
2. Engine talk, Sorry for the noob questions I'm out of touch. I'm wanting a bit more power what is best to get some reliabeish power.
currently i have a 1600 stock engine, starts every time. looking into possible g1.8 or 2L recommendations??
Also thinking maybe getting a exhaust and extractors, carb set up etc. can all over this bolt on all engines if i get it on my 1.6 to begin with.
To do List
Left hand TC plastic light surround
left hand door look plastic
Left hand door hinge
All oil leaks fixed
Susspention
Brake pad upgrade
Engine upgrade

G200 with early 1600 head.
Decent cam valves and springs neat port job and twins.
Should rocket along
(this is a quick list can go into specifics if needed)

Sorry about the blandess of my reply above messaged off my phone.08IWN wrote:Thanks Mate. do you no of any mechanics on the GC that are the go to builders. also does most stuff bolt on all engines 1.6 -g200?
I'm in Canberra Lok or someone may be able to point you in the right direction for that sorta thing.
So depends on what you mean by most stuff?
Most of the G series engine components fit with each other.
So my Hi Comp G series idea you'd need to get yourself a G200 bottom end and a decent 1600 head.
They'll bolt together easily. Depending on cam you may need to check the valve to piston clearance.
Sumps are all the same rocker covers flywheels etc. (And we are talking single cam stuff here)
With your induction if you go webbers you need the manifold that to suit a Gemini. Unlike that other f*$kwit who was trying to sell a set on here a little while ago you can't just buy a set (especially to suit something like a LSeries Datsun motor) and hope they fit.
Some 4z stuff can work to. Mainly the inlet and exhaust though.

Re: What engine for my Coupe with pics.
I would go G180 rather than G200.
My first gemini build was a G200 with a higher compression head and after replacing 2 blown head gaskets I converted it back to stock and run it in my son's daily. It is a great engine for lugging through city traffic in 5th and taking off in 2nd gear (or 3rd if you like). Issues with the G200:
- it does not like a lot of compression due to the thinness of the head gasket space between 1-2 and 3-4 pistons.
- G161 heads bolt up but the water galleries don't line up well. Good g200 heads are hard to come by.
So reliability wise for extra HP I would go for the G180. Plus it is a true bolt in conversion and under the threshold of a mod plate (in QLD anyway).
The best engine I have had in a Gemini is a warmed up 4ZC1 naturally aspirated. But it is a lot more mucking around
