Mornin Gents.
Got the 161 back in my car a while back to get through rego and it seems to have a carb issue. Itll run/start/drive/idle well no problems, but im finding its draining the fuel bowl over night into the cylinders, cloud of black smoke being the give away.
Whats the go? Im guessing needle and seat?

No to needle and seat because they sit at the top of the bowl. If it was needle and seat you would have a flooding issue on idle and the bowl overflows.
Tossed on bowl emptying into the engine? leaking out the front glass and over the manifold i could understand

Hey Toby,
No signs of it leaking out the front of the site glass, but will pull that off and have a look to rule it out completely. Like i said, seems to be leaking into the inlet manifold because starting the thing usually results in a cloud of black smoke. Only other thing i can think of is if the fuel is being sucked back into the tank while sitting [unlikely id say].
Car went from EFI back to Carby so maybe ive missed something silly

Fuel can't be sucked out as it drops in from the top , and anyway the bowl is vented.
I dragged up a diagram on a Nikki to refresh my memory as I have not rebuilt one of these in years (if a Nikki plays up I install a Weber 32/36). There is a gasket separating the allow bowl segment from the cast iron butterfly segment. if that gasket has failed or the connecting screws are loose it might casue a leak - all I can think of I am afraid.

Re: Carby woes...
What Johnno said, standard elec pump. Carb is only a temporary measure to get through rego again/get to nationals. c*#t can go in the bin after thatGEMWRC wrote:Is it a Mechanical fuel pump

Re: Carby woes...
I have never pulled apart a Nikki so this is probably bulls*#t, but can anyone suggest if jets can actually be loose? Within reason I mean. Also the Nikkis have a fuel cut solenoid as well as a choke solenoid. Wonder if the fuel cut solenoid could play a part if it's dud or otherwise staying powered/open?
Man, you're trekking up to the Nats and I'm in another continent. All those times you've helped me out I reckon I owe you a beer. That might have to be next year haha.
