And yea gene, your forgetting about the rear mount of the lower control arm in the chassis (so did i ) but that means that my idea is better
WE increased the front track to give better front end grip.
I have done the front lower control arm mod. i have 3 degree's.
Tezza cheeers for the link
If you go to www.chevettes.com forum for parts for sale/wanted there is an article on the first page. The guy is taking orders for quick racks but needs numbers before getting them made.

The more fully sic sideways the more points.
The sharper your steering angle the more sideways you can get an the more fully sic you have the potential to be.
I say this thread is way off point.
Increasing track and a quicker rack wont help your steering angle become sharper.
Butchering up your suspension will do that till the rack runs out of throw.
Bob.
Piazza for sale, black, manual, in fair condition with heaps of parts $3500 (parts not for sale seperately)

I know I'm digging up an old thread. Just wanted to say - if there are any mods watching - reckon this could get moved to tech discussion or the suspension section? I was thinking of starting a new topic til I did a search, but it'd be easier if it was there . Lots of great info here too.

That's just.. Wow.Gemi Coupe wrote:
How readily available, and how expensive are high tensile adjustable bolts and bits like that? If I could get my hands on the right bits and pieces, I know a few welders, and I think a setup using at least some parts of that (like the upper "control arm" for instance) wouldn't really be that hard.
And of course the temptation to fit coilovers to a whole new lower control arm setup and do away with the bumpstops cops love to hate so much has been nagging at every Gemini nut's mind...
Oh and thanks Gemi Coupe for moving thread

i cant see any really need to completely re-engineer the wheel if there is a fairly simple solution at hand.
drifters have simply extended their racks and run longer tie rod ends to get more lock. its been tried tested and proven to work time and time again. saying that, its yet to see if proven effective on a gemini. the above formula is normally applied to the nissan drift cars.
AE86's just use the shorter steering arms from the models that came with power steering, obviously leaving the non power steering rack in place.
having huge amounts of steering lock is crucial for a drift car to be COMPETITIVE. thats the difference, any gem with standard lock will go fairly good, with the appropriate driver. how ever in a comp. where your being judged against another car, its so crucial to have more speed and more angle, hecne the lock required

Extending your rack isnt the be-all-end-all sollution.
Think about it. Your stub axle pivots in the middle, with [in the case of the gemini] the rack on the forward edge. By extending the rack ends, you push the wheels out, and you end up with [excuse the crude drawing] wheels looking like this.
| |--------| | to this / / ------- \ \
To correct the alignment the pivot point would have to be moved forward. This is where the problems begin in a Gemini.
Then theres things like tyre and wheel clearance...

wheel cleareance is always an issue, hence y most ofthe guys run wheels with +35 or less on nissans, and the toyotas go for +10 or less

umm, if you have a good look over any top level drift car in Australia, you will actually find they are very well thought out pieces of engineering, taking only minor set up adjustments to set them up for grip racing.
the common belief is that the drift cars are set up to slide, or promote oversteer. this is very far from the truth, higher skilled drivers are always constantly trying to find more 'grip' in the car which in turn gives more speed while sliding. the cars are always well balanced, and even the tracks are very neutral. if you build a car designed to promote oversteer in the general world of grip racing, you will find u have just built a slow and unpridictable car to slide
excessive camber isnt really that common place anymore, only the punters going for the wannabe 'look' will dial in 5 deg - camber.
most of the guys at the top, run -3 up front and never any more then -1 on the rear. saying all that, its wat said here this is works for silvias and the like, not really been tried and tested on a gem to know my knowledge
