Hand brake cable and hand brake in sr20 gem help!!!

Post by NANKERVIS08 »

So I have tx sedan flat floor
(Td diff) I've done a rear disk conversion and everything is sweet, just one issue
I have no hand brake, the original cable from the tx diff is to long and has the wrong ends on it and to long
Did any Gemini come with the correct fitting?
Also have done an sr conversion and the handbrake fouls on the gear stick, what did people do here?

Cheers
Glen

What brakes did you use on the rear? Depends what calipers you have as to what end you need on the cable.

Grab a TD cable off someone to check.

I used a TD cable with the hook end, and if your running commodore style discs you weld a tube on the bracket that holds the original commodore cable in place on the backing plate and it will hook straight on. That was on a tc floorpan though, unsure how the flat floors are setup.

For handbrake/gear stick clearance, I put a slight bend in handbrake lever to enable selecting first gear while handbrake is on (I.e. Hill start). Difficult performing handbrakies while in second gear, so doesn't bother me.

How this all works together will depend on motor positioning.

You can get short shifts that may improve this and you could also bend gear stick to drivers side too.

The other option that has been done before is cut out handbrake hole in floor and reweld further back.

Cheers, Matthew

glen your fukd in simple, i discovered this teh hard way that due to flat floors having different mounting brackets later model cable dont fit our floors and mounts nore brakes, its the gayest little ball thing ever.

but if your cable is to long your in buisness, simply measure up both cables the lengths they need to be and head down to a cable joint with it and they will change the ends over for you ie cut old off, change outer case end crimp a new end on, they can even make you a whole new cable to match the old if you wish, i know off the joint in sydney up your way i dunno im guessing there would be something tho
