just wondering what cutting the middle bit out does??? does it increase performance???With the carby off I took off the inlet manifold, and got a hacksaw blade and cut the center out of the manifold then with some steel grinders i set to work porting the carby inlet to suit the weber. This is how it finished up looking

The standard manifold causes a restriction to the flow etc.
But to clarify, sufficient turbulence is required for good burn and power. Some cars with smooth straight ports with short distances to the carby need to introduce restrictions to create more turbulence for sufficient air/fuel mixing - mainly a low speeds.
Longer manifolds or non-smooth-bore short manifolds don't have this problem.
BUT this is NOTan issue with this set up!
As I said - PEDANTic. It's just that I knew a dude with this problem and he spent a fortune before listening to the advice he was given. Stupid BMW driver - the only good advice is expensive advice from the "experts"! Tee-Hee!

the engine is a 1.6 litre bored 20thou, standard internals as far as i know.
extractors, inlet manifold ported out to gasket size.
primary idle jet 50
secondry idle jet 50
primary main jet 140
secondry main jet 132
primary air jet 190
secondry air jet 180
im not saying that its the right jetting but its definately driveable.
for anyone that wants to setup there weber heres a good starting point
